President Craig Knobloch called the meeting of March 7 to order. Entertainment was again provided by Jonathan Turner and his Yodeling Irish Vikings.
The first announcement was offered by Dick Fislar on behalf of Bud Phyllis who, with his wife, was part of our gathering. On March 18, for the low price of $8, we will be joining with our Rock Island Rotary friends for an evening of comedy at the Establishment Theater, formerly the Rocket.
John Califf informed us that the next Interclub would be in Geneseo on March 21. This will be a dinner meeting.
By the time you receive this, your Club Board will have met to discuss all that is important at Huckleberry's.
President Craig passed the hat as a funding supplement for the Rock Island Downtown Cleanup organization.
Tom Plechaty reported that while Dale Grabau is back home from the hospital, he had encountered some health problems, so please keep Dale in your thoughts and prayers. Tom also mentioned that Rose Day sales would be starting next week. Tom's final statement was that despite Duncan's presence with us last week, Tom still managed to have custody of Duncan's block of aged Swiss cheese. I'm sure nothing like this could possibly happen, but I found myself thinking about the unique gift to present to the annual bad gift exchange.
Guests included members of the Rock Island High School Key Club, chaperoned by the Rock Island High School Principal, Robert Mason.
In Fun and Fellowship, Daryl Townsend won the preliminary prize, which he elected to keep in order to purchase just enough gasoline to get him home after the meeting. Jeff Behrens had a hard time finding someone who would lay claim to the ticket to participate in the grand prize, and on the third call, he managed to find the Kartel ready to lay claim to the prize. Unfortunately, the Kartel's leader, Mark Amacher, was unable to come up with a winning guess.
