The Opening Act

Club President Craig Knobloch called the meeting of December 20 to order. Entertainment was once again provided by Jonathan Turner and his Burl Ives Christmas Song Singers.
The first announcement came from Dick Fislar, who reminded those of us who still owe him money for the joint dinner and entertainment evening with Rotary to pay up or get dunned by the Club Enforcers.
John Califf reported that the annual Christmas party at Second Baptist Church, formerly at Martin Luther King Center, came off smashingly. While the number of children participating was lower than in past years, everyone was well accommodated and had a great time.
John also reported that the Tom & Jerry Interclub with the Davenport Club came off well and that, as of this moment, most all attendees had returned home. He informed us that the next Interclub would be a dry meeting on January 17 with the East Moline Club which, as your Editor recalls, is held at Genesis Illini Hospital.
Next week, the Club meeting will be something more along the lines of what we used to call a round table. Attendance will be lower, formalities will be virtually non-existent, and no business will be conducted. We'll just have a chance to hopefully have something healthy after gorging ourselves over the weekend. There probably will not be a newsletter next Monday.
Guests included a lone Alleman High School Key Clubber, who attended the meeting with a close relative.
In Fun and Fellowship, Bob Tapprich won the preliminary prize which, in the spirit of receiving, he elected to take. The Kartel won the opportunity to go for the grand prize, with Dick Fislar playing for the Kartel. Despite his best efforts, he got, well, creamed

The program consisted of what was announced as possibly the Club's 20th anniversary of this fabled and traditional Club event. Ably handling the heavy lifting was that cheery elf from the North, that comic non-pareil, that laugh-a-minute leprechaun in livid red, Santa Rod. He was assisted this year by immediate past President, Daphne Ormsby, whom he elected to dress undercover for the occasion. Your Editor had other pressing business, so he wasn't able to stick around until the last dog died in this fine event, but what he was able to see was a refreshing and fun reminder of past years.
As an Editor's note, I wish all of you the peace, joy and blessings of the season, however you celebrate it, and a New Year filled with hope and happiness.
