The meeting of November 22 was called to order by First Vice President, Tom Ketelaar. For those who enjoy rhyme, you might say that there was no Knobloch. Jonathan Turner was in attendance along with his Kiwanis Butterball Chorale.
In order to fit in a full agenda, First VP Tom declared that we would have a group singing hiatus which, though painful, managed to be accepted by the membership.
There was a whole bunch of announcements. First, Tom Plechaty gave his report from the far cheesy reaches of the meeting room and announced that cheese sales were going briskly and that orders would be taken for another two weeks.
John Califf reminded us that the next Interclub would be the annual Davenport Club-sponsored Tom & Jerry party on December 16. It's probably not too early to make your own travel arrangements.
Dick Fislar gave us another reminder concerning the January 19 joint dinner meeting with Rotary at Circa 21. Seats are going fast, so make sure you get in on the ground floor.
Dick also reminded us of the annual Reindeer Ramble to be held December 5. Dick solicited anyone who might be willing to volunteer for this annual fun and fit event.
Daryl Empen informed us that we're down to our last 30 Dining Tour books. For that local friend or relative for whom it's difficult to come up with an idea for a holiday gift, remember, the gift of food just keeps on giving.
Alicia Shuman extended her thanks to all of those who participated in assisting at the annual Thanksgiving dinner held this year at Second Baptist Church. She also reminded us that at 8:00 a.m. on December 4, volunteers will be needed for gift wrapping, again at Second Baptist, in preparation for our Club's 34th anniversary of participating in what we've come to know as the King Center holiday party.
Guests included members of the Rock Island High School Key Club, who were escorted by Rock Island High School principal, Robert Mason.
Tracee Keefer reminded us that on December 11, our Club will be called upon to participate in Salvation Army bell ringing, so if you think you can spare some time to be a ding-a-ling, please contact Tracee.
In Fun and Fellowship, the Kartel won the preliminary prize. Dave Bender won the opportunity to go for the grand prize, which he managed to wrest out of the hands of Mike Bell in one of the tougher contests in recent memory.
The baton went back to Tom Ketelaar, who reminded us that next week, the Club would celebrate new member inductions, as well as working on a quilt project.
