The Opening Act

President Craig Knobloch called the November 15 meeting to order.  Entertainment was once again provided by Jonathan Turner and his Kiwanis Alma Mater Singers.

As the impromptu song leader, Liz Loveless was called upon to lead all alumni and parents of future alumni in the Alleman High School fight song in recognition of the football team's accomplishments to date.

Tom Plechaty resumed in his role as the Club's answer to the Maytag repairman in his hawking of fine cheeses.

Dick Fislar took the opportunity to wear some of his favorite Christmas head gear while informing us that there is now going to be a social hour immediately before the January 19 Circa 21 event with the Rotary Club.

Craig Knobloch announced that the meeting on November 29 will not only feature a lap blanket assembly line for the benefit of residents at Winnie's but also new member inductions.

Alicia reminded us of one of our service events coming up this Sunday at 7:00 a.m. at Second Baptist for those who are allowed to work with sharp objects while hacking at turkeys.  December 4 will be the annual gift wrapping for the annual Christmas party which will also be at Second Baptist.

In the Interclub area, John Califf announced that the annual Tom & Jerry party hosted by the Davenport Club will be held December 16 at the Outing Club.  It's probably not too early for you to start lining up your rides.

Guests included an Interclub from Atkinson.

Dick Fislar took the floor one more time to remind us of the annual December 5 Reindeer Ramble.  Dick could use some help that morning for only a brief period of time during the race and for setup.

In Fun and Fellowship, the Kartel won the preliminary prize.  Jud Briggs won the opportunity to go for the grand prize which, as is Jud's custom, he lost.

The Feature Attraction

The program was given by Bob Szorc, the varsity basketball coach at Alleman High School.  Bob explained that the success of the football team has been somewhat of a mixed blessing, since a number of football players are also basketball athletes.  Bob mentioned that he has several seniors back and, as always, he has a hard-working group of young men.  His forecast is still cloudy, since it's difficult to anticipate how these athletes will be melding with the basketball players already practicing.  Coach Szorc expressed that, as always, he is working to instill a positive championship attitude among his players.

Future Attractions

Nov. 22           Thom Sigel, Rocky basketball coach

Nov. 29           Blanket-Palooza service project & new member induction

Dec. 6            Dave DeJaegher & Lynn VanDeHeede, Alleman State of the School
