The meeting was called to order by President Craig Knobloch. In view of the fact that our program was to consist of some musical entertainment, we gave Jonathan Turner a reprieve and an opportunity to sit in the audience for a change.
President Craig reminded us that we still have a load of Dining Tour books and that this year's array of restaurants appears to be largely still in business.
Tom Plechaty announced that Plechaty's the name and cheese is the game. Our annual Kiwanis fundraiser will be coming into play shortly, and Tom announced that prices will be the same as last year. What he didn't mention is that this is probably attributable to the fact that we have apparently found a supply of unsold cheese from last year that's been curing in Tom's compost heap.
Vice President, Tom Ketelaar, reminded us of the Cool Beanz project where instead of returning a fully-stamped punch card for coffee, that business will make contributions to certain charities, including our Club.
The East Moline/Silvis Club will be holding a trivia night on November 6. If you think you have a knack for remembering useless information, please consider making this a special date.
The news that Dick Fislar was stranded at an airport brought an abundance of cries of grief and remorse from the membership but, in his absence, Craig ably handled the reporting on the reminder of our joint Circa 21 outing with the Rock Island Rotary Club.
Alicia Shuman announced that the annual Martin Luther King Center Thanksgiving dinner will be held on November 21 and, again, assistance will be needed. If you're interested in assisting, please contact Alicia. Christmas wrapping will be held on December 4 for the annual Christmas party which will be held December 15. All events will be taking place at the Second Baptist Church, diagonally across the street from the Martin Luther King Center property, while the Center is undergoing construction activities.
A report was given on the Governor's visit of October 24. Besides being quite a hoot, considering the get-ups of Liz Loveless and Alicia Shuman for the event, the serious business consisted of reminding us that we need to focus on new members.
Adam Bain informed us that Coats for Kids would be held on November 5 and that students from Willard, the Academy, and Longfellow grade schools in Rock Island would be benefiting. Please contact Adam if you're able to help out this very worthwhile and rewarding venture.
In Fun and Fellowship, Bob Tapprich won the preliminary prize, which he graciously donated to the Alleman High School Key Club. The opportunity to go for the grand prize went to Steve Schroder, who lost in one of the more novel games that Quizmaster Mike Bell has ever come up with.
