Club
President, Adam Bain, presided over the Club meeting of September 20. Once again, Jonathan Turner ably handled the
entertainment portion of the meeting, along with his Kiwanis Heartbreakers. As
a special treat, we got to have someone who actually knows how to sing, Daryl
Empen, provide the song leading. Adam
began the announcements with the initial results of the bags tournament. The tournament was wildly successful, despite
the rain, with a host of vendors, over 100 teams, and well over 200 people
involved in the event. Adam guessed that
the Club would probably enjoy receipts in the $8,000 to $8,500 range. Liz
Loveless reminded us of the October 2, NAMI walk at Credit Island. Father Mirabelli, Al Beck, Mike Swartz, Ron
Quay and Joe Robb all promised to do their part in assuring good weather and
low water levels to support the event. Gene
Smith gave a final rundown on Birdies for Charity. The Club stands to receive approximately
$3,200 plus the bonus of approximately $160. Adam
announced that besides the two Board vacancies which have been filled, there is
another vacancy, so if you are still interested, newly interested, or willing
to give it another shot, please indicate your desires to Adam. Guests
included members of the Rock Island High School and Alleman High School Key
Clubs. In
Fun and Fellowship, the Kartel won the preliminary prize and sensed total
victory in also qualifying for the grand prize, but the wiley Mike Bell spun his
magic and denied the Kartel the grand prize, despite the best efforts of Lee
Schenck.
