The Opening Act
I apologize for the extremely late delivery of the E-News this week.  I was out of town much of the week and weekend. - Daryl

Things were back to normal for our September 13 meeting.  Club President, Adam Bain, was able to preside on a solo basis for the meeting, and Jonathan Turner was back providing entertainment, along with his Kiwanis Clearwater Revival.
On a delightful surprise note, we were able to welcome that Nag's Head Flash, past Club member and Club President, Bud Sheets.
In keeping with his no-singing-on-September-13 policy, especially when the song leader is late, Adam dispensed with this Club's favorite audience participation.
For probably the last time this year, Adam reminded us of the bags tournament this  Saturday. He took the opportunity to thank all who had participated in the planning for the event.  Liz Loveless remarked that we still need assistance during the period Saturday from 2:00 until 4:00 or so.
Liz also reminded us of the NAMI walk on October 2. Please make a pledge to this worthwhile organization and, if possible, sign up to participate.  It should be a good time and, remember, Liz knows Gene Smith, and we all know how Gene enforces participation in Birdies for Charity.
Guests included representatives of the Alleman High School Key Club and the Rock Island High School Key Club, who were chaperoned by Rock Island High School Principal, Mr. Robert Mason.
There was a flood of Happy and Sad Dollars, but one of the all-time best anecdotes had to come from Al Beck.  Your Editor couldn't even keep track of Al's presentation, so I'd suggest just giving him a call.
In Fun and Fellowship, Club leadership tried something different, much to President Adam's dismay.  Tom Ketelaar ran the 50/50 drawing, which the Kartel managed to win.  Then, as a topper, Mark Amacher picked up the winnings and dashed out of the room.
The Feature Attraction
The program was by Republican congressional candidate, Bobby Schilling.  Mr. Schilling gave a brief background of his early days in Rock Island, his schooling, and his early job history.  He followed this with an articulation of many of his themes, including job creation, lowering the unemployment rate, and developing an across-the-aisle spirit of cooperation.  He ended his brief presentation with an opportunity for questions from the audience.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

"Any time you do something from the heart, people just know it." - Brad Paisley
