Upcoming Events/Fundraisers/Dates
Softball Tournament July 23-25.  Volunteers needed, especially at the gate.  Contact Tom Plechaty for more information.
The Opening Act
Club President, Adam Bain, called the meeting of June 28 to order.  Jonathan Turner was back in the entertainment saddle again, along with his Kiwanis Yankee Doodle Dandies.  Adam even gave in and we had songleading, led by our resident troubadour, Daryl Empen.
Gene Smith had mercy on us and gave us one more week to voluntarily participate in Birdies for Charity before he calls out the dogs.
Tom Plechaty continued to circulate the softball tournament list.  This event will be going on the weekend of July 23.  Please sign up early and often.
Adam reminded us again that if anyone had any nominees for the Hixson Award, they should submit them to him immediately.
Gene Smith also mentioned that he would be soliciting some assistance to work out at the Classic, and those interested should contact him.
Adam reminded us of the July 25 Learn to Ride project at the Botanical Center.  Please contact Adam if you've spent the appropriate number of hours working at the softball tournament and would like to participate in this project as well.
Daryl Townsend, our loyal shakedown expert at the Club entryway, reminded us that the pantry collection this month would be going to the Children's Advocacy Center.
The Happy/Sad Dollar segment resulted in a flood of dollars, as well as some really interesting presentations.  Tom Ketelaar spoke on his participation in the International Convention, Bob VanDeVoorde related some of the background to his being named to the Quad Cities Senior Olympics Hall of Fame, Bill Nelson put in his pitch for the Fourth of July festivities surrounding the grand opening of the new park, Dale Grabau thanked everyone for their best wishes during his convalescence and expressed how glad he was to be back with Club members, Brian Verdun regretfully announced that he would be leaving the Club and the area for Pontiac, Illinois for a job change, and we were reminded of the Blues Fest activities this weekend as well.
In Fun and Fellowship, the preliminary prize was re-donated to the Club.  For the grand prize, the Kartel might as well have donated it back to the Club, since the almost voiceless Tom Ketelaar rendered the smasharoo to the Kartel participant.
The Feature Attraction
The program was given by Jeff Condit, the Director of Development for Friendship Manor.  Jeff gave a lively, humorous and informative presentation on this jewel of Rock Island.  Most of us were surprised at how little we actually we knew of this faith-based, non-profit, charitable, continuing care retirement community.
Future Attractions
