The Opening Act

Club President, Adam Bain, called
the meeting of June 21 to order.
Jonathan Turner was unavailable, so Adam took the wise course of not
engaging in group singing and avoiding the risk of offending the sensitive
hearing of stray dogs in the area. Bob
VanDeVoorde announced that he had a get well card for Dale Grabau, who has been
home ill. Please extend your best wishes
to Dale. Gene
Smith gave us forewarning that June 21 would be the last day to voluntarily
turn in Birdies for Charity entries before Gene unleashes the big dogs next
week. Adam
reminded us that Hixson nominations would be accepted up until July 1. Adam
also reminded us that on July 5, the Club would hold a roundtable in lieu of
any joint meeting with Rotary on July 6. Tom
Plechaty informed us that the date for the annual softball tournament has been
advanced up to the weekend of July 23 - 25. Sign up early and often for this always enjoyable Club event. Adam
informed the membership that on July 25, the Club would be participating in a
Learn to Ride project with the youth in the community. If you find yourself pretty well softballed
out by Sunday afternoon, come by the Botanical Center and assist. Tom
Ketelaar stood in for Craig Knobloch for his portion of the meeting. He announced that guests included members of
the Davenport Kiwanis Club, who announced that on September 30, they will be
celebrating their 90th anniversary. All of our Club members are welcome to join the festivities. In
Fun and Fellowship, the preliminary prize was graciously donated back to the
Club, and for the grand prize, past President and former Queen in perpetuity,
Daphne, managed to lose for the Kartel.

| The Feature Attraction |
The
program was given by Susan Zelnio, Director of Workforce Development for the
Illinois Quad City Chamber of Commerce.
Her topic was the Chamber's participation in career cruising, an
exercise which brings students and business people together to present what sort
of career choices are available in the Quad Cities and to help students
determine the direction in which they might wish to go.
