The Opening Act
|
Our
Club President, Adam Bain, called the meeting to order on June 7. Jonathan Turner once again provided the
entertainment, along with the Kiwanis Traveling All Stars and Motor Kings. In
the interest of making points with just about everybody, President Adam decided
to forego our traditional song segment. Adam
also gave a brief recap of the past weekend's Peanut Days Redux, mentioning
that the Club cleared approximately $400 at its designated site. In the spirit of recognizing a
summer institution, Gene Smith reminded us that there is always more room for
Birdies. Adam
also gave us a reminder that suggestions for Hixson Award nominees should be
given to him or Mike Bell by July 1. By
the time you receive this newsletter, you will have probably missed the board
meeting scheduled for June 8 at 11:30 at Huckleberry's. Joe
Robb reminded us that the next scheduled Interclub is June 9 for dinner and
rolle bolle in Atkinson. To those who
might need a ride, Joe has obtained a landscaping sketch of the location of
bushes in the vicinity of the Moline Lowe's store in order to assist those who
might be trying to figure out where to meet. In
Fun and Fellowship, the Kartel won the preliminary prize. Les Bohnert won the opportunity to win the
grand prize which, between our speaker and Mike Bell, managed to drift between
Les' fingers. The
Club was pleased to present a number of gifts to a variety of charities. Churches United received $650, the Child
Abuse Council received $500, the Children's Therapy Center received $700, the
Boys and Girls Club received $1,000, Community Caring Conference received $500,
and Spring Forward Learning Center received $500. The representative from the St. Joseph
Workers House was unable to attend, but that organization is to receive a $500
gift as well.

| The Feature Attraction |
The
program was given by Mr. Clair Peterson, the Executive Director of the John
Deere Classic. Clair was pleased to
present a number of interesting figures on this event. Due to the generosity of Deere & Company,
the Classic has been able to return 100 percent of its pledges. In addition, the event has often been able to
give additional amounts as a bonus back to supporting organizations. Last year, this amounted to approximately a 6
percent bonus back to, among other organizations, our own Kiwanis Club. Clair was pleased to announce that Deere has
agreed to participate in its present capacity through the year 2016. 2010 marks the 40th year of this
event.

REASON #3 AS TO
WHY THE HOUSE COMMITTEE TAKES ATTENDANCE This
is the third installment on presenting to Club members the reasons as to why
the House Committee takes attendance. This information is needed for the monthly reports that our Club
Secretary files with the District and Kiwanis International. THOUGHT FOR THE
