Upcoming Events/Fundraisers/Dates
The Rock Island Center for Math & Science is having their Playground Build on Friday, June 11th 10-4 and Saturday June 12th 8-5, and can use volunteers to assist.  If you can assist, please email Daryl (daryl@gaselectriccu.com) to let him know.  This is our K-Kids school.
The Opening Act
The Club did not meet at its usual Monday noon time this week.  Rather, the Club met Tuesday, June 1, in a joint meeting with Rock Island Rotary Club.  Rotary served as the hosts of the event, so there wasn't a significant number of matters of interest pertaining to our Club.  In the absence of our Club President, Adam Bain, Craig Knobloch handled what few Kiwanis housekeeping matters came up.
We were reminded by Joe Robb  that the next Interclub will be with the Atkinson Club on June 9.  This is the annual rolle bolle tournament, which has been a uniquely delightful experience to all who have ever participated.  Everyone interested in a really good time and a super dinner should plan to attend and start buffing your bolles right away.  For those who need a ride, Joe suggested meeting with him and some other participants in the parking lot at Lowe's that evening.  Joe said something about meeting in the bushes, but your Editor did not have an opportunity to find out exactly what he might have meant by that.
A card was available for the purpose of signing to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the ordination of Father Mirabelli.  Neither Duncan Reid nor Father Mirabelli were in attendance at the June 1 meeting, and I'm sure that if they had attended, Duncan might have queried about how much stainless steel ware could have accumulated over that period of time.
In the Rotary drawing equivalent of our Fun and Fellowship, our own Dick Fislar managed to win the consolation prize and won an addition to his collection of fine North Dakota wines.
The Feature Attraction
The speaker was Cynthia Tidwell, President/CEO of Royal Neighbors, who gave an extremely informative and extensive presentation on her philosophies of turning around a corporation through her strategy of identification, stabilization and strengthening.  She also gave a brief background on Royal Neighbors itself.
Future Attractions
June 7 Claire Peterson, John Deere Classic
REASON #2 AS TO WHY THE HOUSE COMMITTEE TAKES ATTENDANCE

Consistent with our review of reasons as to why the House Committee takes attendance, this week we'll handle Reason #2.  This is for the purpose of identifying those who might be eligible for perfect attendance recognition.  If you wish to maintain or start a perfect attendance record, you should be sure that you are counted each week and make sure that the person taking attendance at the entrance to each Club meeting is aware that you are present.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
