Upcoming Events/Fundraisers/Dates
The Rock Island Center for Math & Science is having their Playground Build on Friday, June 11th 10-4 and Saturday June 12th 8-5, and can use volunteers to assist.  If you can assist, please email Daryl (daryl@gaselectriccu.com) to let him know.  This is our K-Kids school.
The Opening Act
Club President, Adam Bain, presided over the May 24 meeting.  Once again, Jonathan Turner provided the entertainment with the assistance of his Kiwanis Glee Club.
The announcements started with Dick Fislar's reminder of his Memorial Day party.  Dick and his wife will be graciously sponsoring a joint Kiwanis/Rotary picnic at his home from 12:00 - 4:00 on Monday, May 31.  Dick and Mary will be providing the meat portion. Simply bring yourself, your guest, a dish to share, and a swimsuit if you wish to dunk yourself and your food.
Adam circulated the song leading and invocation list sign-up for the next several weeks.  Please help out in this regard if you're so inclined.
Yes, there will be another Peanut Weekend. Contact Tom Plechaty if you are able to assist over the weekend of June 4 and 5.
On the subject of Terrific Kids, a pizza party was held with the Frances Willard School group last week.  There will be another one this week at 11:30 at Thomas Jefferson Grade School.
Gene Smith took the opportunity to remind us that it's Birdies season again.
In the Happy and Sad Dollars area, we heard that Dave Luft will be reassigned by the Salvation Army in the next month and that he will be leaving our membership at the end of June.  Alicia also brought to our attention some upcoming surgery for her husband, Ray.  We can keep both of these gentlemen in our thoughts and prayers.
From the last Peanut Weekend, Mike Bell reminded those who still have peanuts for which they had signed up earlier to pick them up before the next batch makes the scene.
In Fun and Fellowship, the Kartel won the preliminary prize, which it eagerly accepted.  The Kartel also won the opportunity to go for the grand prize, but Bob Wakefield once again got beaten by our wiley secretary, Mike Bell.
The Feature Attraction
The program was given by representatives of Fyre Lake National.  They gave a fine presentation, starting with a brief history of the Fyre Lake area and the events leading up to the Fyre Lake National Group.  Fyre Lake National is comprised of most of the west side of the original Fyre Lake properties.  Membership was presented with a very informative slide presentation giving an illustration of the location of the Fyre Lake National lots, the golf course, and the many activities and amenities in the area.  The golf course is expected to open in the spring of 2011.  The course will be a public course with special concessions made available for owners of properties in Fyre Lake.
Future Attractions
May 31            NO MEETING - Memorial Day
June 1              Joint meeting with Rotary
REASON #1 AS TO WHY THE HOUSE COMMITTEE TAKES ATTENDANCE

Our caterer accepts our attendance count as the number of meals we pay for.  Since we want to pay the right amount for our meals, it is necessary to keep track of who attends, whether member or guest.

REMINDER

There will be no meeting next Monday, May 31.  Go to Dick and Mary Fislar's party instead.  We will meet on Tuesday, June 1 in a joint meeting with Rotary.
