Upcoming Events/Fundraisers/Dates
The Rock Island Center for Math & Science is having their Playground Build on Friday, June 11th and Saturday June 12th, and can use volunteers to assist.  Details will be forthcoming, but if you can assist, please email Daryl (daryl@gaselectriccu.com) to let him know.  This is our K-Kids school.

The Opening Act
Club President, Adam Bain, presided over the May 17 meeting.  Jonathan Turner once again provided the entertainment along with his Kiwanis Peanut Chorus.
Adam informed us of most all of the announcements. He began by reminding us that the John Deere Classic would be coming up from July 7 through 11.  This provided a natural segue to Gene Smith and his weekly exhortation concerning Birdies for Charity.  Adam added that the Moline Club would once again be enlisting volunteers to serve as marshals at one of the holes at the Classic.
As an update to Peanut Weekend, Tom Plechaty informed us that we had cleared approximately $3,000.  Peanuts Redux will be held in June.
Dick Fislar gave a blanket invitation to all Club members and their mates to attend a joint Kiwanis/Rotary Memorial Day picnic at the Fislar house from 12:00 to 4:00.  Bring along a dish to pass.  The Fislars will be providing grilling meats.  A pool is available, so bring along your favorite beach attire if you wish.
The next Interclub will be held June 9 in Atkinson for the annual rolle bolle fest.
If you have someone in mind for Lay Person of the Year, pass your thoughts on to Al Beck, Tom Hanson or Joe Robb.
If you have some thoughts on who might be a worthy recipient of the Hixson Award, pass your thoughts on to Mike Bell.
The District golf outing will be hosted by our Club at Rock Island Arsenal on August 9.  Gene Smith is feverishly working out arrangements for this.  There will be a luncheon, followed by what passes for golf.
The results have finally been compiled from a quorum of the voting membership, and in a real back room squeaker, the slate presented to the membership was voted in unanimously.  This tally was confirmed by unanimous vote of the membership, so we can look forward to another year of fine leadership.
As a special treat, the meeting featured an appearance by our own Jose Feliciano Wanna Be, Daryl Townsend.
In Fun and Fellowship, Dale Grabau won the preliminary prize, which he graciously donated back to the Club.  Bob VanDeVoorde won the opportunity to go for the grand prize, which he successfully wrested out of the fist of Mike Bell.
In two special presentations, Kim Brozovich was inducted as the newest member of the Club.  Chuck Dyson received an award commemorating his 45 years of Club membership.
The Feature Attraction
Our planned program presenter was unable to attend, so we were delighted to once again welcome former Queen Daphne as our substitute.  Denise gave a fine presentation on A. D. Huesing.  She gave a brief summary of her formative years, growing up in Davenport, attending Davenport West and Augustana College, and ending her formal education with her MBA from St. Ambrose.  She started with Huesing in 1987.  The company started in 1899 and has grown to coverage of an 11-county area.  In 2009, the company sold approximately 4.3 million cases of soft drinks and 51 different packages, touting 227 flavors.  Denise also shared that besides the fine civic support the company has given to the Quad Cities, PepsiCo is also a generous participant in charitable endeavors.  Denise explained some corporate news as to how Huesing has expanded into different types of products in different areas.
