Upcoming Events/Fundraisers/Dates

Peanut Days, May 7th and 8th. Volunteers are needed to staff the Rock Island, Milan, and Moline (7th Street) HyVees on Friday and Saturday.  If you are interested in buying a case of peanuts for yourself or your business, please contact Mike Bell at bellri200@hotmail.com.
The Opening Act
The meeting of May 3 was led by the officers of the Alleman High School Key Club.
Guests included a visiting group from the Rock Island Golden K Club, as well as members of the Alleman High School Key Club.
After introductions, Adam Bain was given the opportunity to make the day's announcements.  First, he reminded us of the kickoff celebration of the Moline Club's 90th anniversary, with a golf outing Thursday, May 6.
Next, he gave what was the final announcement concerning the annual meeting of the Salvation Army, which will be held next Monday. Please contact Adam if you'd be interested in attending.
Another quick reminder was given on Peanut Days this weekend.  At last check, the Friday slots at the Milan Hy-Vee were filled.  Check with Alicia Shuman if you have some time on Saturday.
In Fun and Fellowship, Steve Andich won the preliminary prize, which he graciously donated back to the Club.  In the grand prize game, the Kartel won the opportunity to qualify, but the increasingly wiley Mike Bell preserved all funds for the Club.
The Alleman High School Key Club officers next drew the membership's attention to a very well done summary of activities for the past year, highlighting current and prospective officers, members by class, recognition for special achievement, and recipients of Club awards for volunteer efforts.
The Feature Attraction
The program was given by Darrin Good, professor of biology at Augustana College.  Darrin first highlighted some of his background from materials passed out to the membership and followed that up with an excellent power point on the College JETS program, which is the College's Nicaragua medical service learning program.  This is a program involving two trips a year by Augustana students, faculty, and alumni to Nicaragua for the purpose of providing free medical care to people in rural areas.  Darrin brought along a senior pre-med student who also shared some of his impressions of the program and the benefits derived from the experiences he had.
