The Opening Act
|
Our
Club President, Adam Bain, called the meeting of April 26 to order. Once again, entertainment was ably provided
by Jonathan Turner. Adam
began the announcements with a reminder of the highly-publicized 90th
anniversary celebrations presented by the Moline Club. He
also reminded us again of the May 10 annual meeting of the Salvation Army which
will be held at the Golden Leaf restaurant. Gene
started getting into form with his Birdies solicitations. John
Califf announced that he was circulating petitions from the League of Women
Voters concerning Illinois congressional district re-districting authority. Al
Beck spoke for his committee which will be meeting to consider nominees for the
Hixson Award. Peanut
Days will occur May 7 and 8. Sign up
early and often and put a big smile on Mike Bell's face. Dave
Umphrey reminded us that the Club would be participating in the Rock Island
clean-up this Saturday, May 1. Meet at
8:00 a.m. at the parking garage. Guests
included members of both the Rock Island High School and the Alleman High
School Key Clubs. Ballots
were passed out to members in attendance for the various offices for which
there will be elections. These would
include President, First Vice President, Second Vice President, and our
three-year term for Directors. In
Fun and Fellowship, Steve Schroder won the preliminary prize, which he
graciously donated back to the Club. David Levin had the opportunity to win the grand prize but was unable to
defeat the cagey wiles of Brother Bell.

The Feature Attraction |
The
program was given by Mary Fislar and her husband. If you were present for the introductions,
you know that it was Dick Fislar who gave his able assistance. The presentation consisted of Mary and Dick
giving us our long-anticipated and awaited narrated slide tour of Paris. Mary and Dick took a number of beautiful
photographs of this charming and culturally-rich area.
