The Opening Act

Club
President, Adam Bain, presided over the April 12 meeting. Jonathan Turner again provided the
entertainment, which was made a bit difficult by President Adam's proclamation
that April 12 would henceforth be known as No Song Monday. Alicia
Shuman brought us up to date concerning the downtown clean-up at 8:00 a.m. May
1 and the 20th Street and river bike path clean-up at 8:00 a.m. on
May 8. Adam
again reminded us of the May 10 Salvation Army annual meeting at the Gold Leaf
restaurant in Davenport. Contact Adam or
Alicia if you're interested. The
Traveling Gavel will be finding its way to Aledo this week, so if you'd like to
make the trip, contact either Joe Robb or Tom Hanson. The
nice Gene Smith was in attendance at the meeting, giving his first call for
Birdies for Charity. Rumor has it that
like a werewolf waiting for a full moon, things will get progressively nastier
as the Mondays roll by. Former
Queen Daphne, the height challenged, gave the second reading of the Nominating
Committee of officers for the coming year. New names included Jeff Behrens for Second Vice President, and Bill
Ferencevich, Tracee Keefer and Chris Ford for three-year Board positions. Guests
included several members of the Rock Island High School Key Club. Birthday
cake materialized in the rear of the dining room, so it must have been
celebration day for our April birthday kids. In
Fun and Fellowship, the Kartel won the preliminary prize and Tom Ketelaar
couldn't wrest the grand prize bills from Craig Knobloch.

| The Feature Attraction |
The
program was given by Brad Johnson, who gave a humorous presentation on
inventions. Brad gave a power point on
the idea he sprung of "Bring TIM", TIM being an acronym for Time is Money. Brad's invention was a device to keep track
of the cost of time spent engaged in any particular activity. It's a fairly simple device which takes the
amount of time spent times an hourly rate, which then shows an individual what
the cost would be. Brad related a number
of humorous experiences in the way of bringing his invention up to speed, as
well as the practical side of determining whether 85 percent return to this
country on a manufactured product should be preferred over 100 percent of
nothing if the product isn't sprung.
Brad shared several other friendly vignettes and humorous advice on
entrepreneurship and inventing.
