The Opening Act
|
Our Club President, Adam Bain, presided
over our meeting of March 29. Jonathan Turner was again in attendance and
provided the entertainment with the Kiwanis Bunny Hop Chorus.
To the delight of the audience,
our former Queen Daphne led us in her favorite Tootsie-Wootsie song.
The last day to purchase roses is
April 8. From what I hear at the table
where I usually sit, a number of you could use a few points, so get out there
and snatch up a few dozen.
John Califf reminded us that the
grant application deadline is April 12, so if you know of someone who might
wish to apply, get this information out.
Adam announced that we need a
program chair for June. If you'd like to
handle this job, contact Alicia Shuman.
Adam again identified the members
of the Nominating Committee handling open positions for next year's leadership: himself, Bob Stecker, Alicia Shuman, and Lee
Schenck. If you have any past experience
in herding cats or nailing Jell-O on a wall, you might be the right person for
one of these positions.
Bill Nelson related that the
Easter egg hunt went smashingly last Saturday.
Approximately 1,000 children participated.
Dave Umphrey announced that
another Terrific Kids visit will be next week at Francis Willard Grade School.
In the Interclub area, Joe Robb
informed us that the traveling gavel will be finding its way to Aledo next
week. The Club collected $57 for the
food pantry. Guests included members of an
Interclub from Moline. The Moline Club
also presented us with their traveling gavel.
In Fun and Fellowship, the Kartel
won the preliminary prize, and Bob Tapprich won the grand prize. There were rumblings among the Club officers
as to the continued effectiveness of Mike Bell in this job.

| The Feature Attraction |
Instead
of a program, the Club made another one of its periodic award
presentations. Jordan Schools received
$500. The Rock Island Park District
received $600. $500 was awarded to
School District No. 41 for the Rock Island Center for Math and Science. Arrowhead Ranch received a gift of $469, and
Boy Scout Troop No. 423 received $1,000.
