Club President, Adam Bain, presided over the Club' meeting of February 22. Jonathan Turner provided the musical entertainment.Announcements started with Dale Grabau giving a report on Daryl Townsend. Daryl is hoping to attend our next Club meeting March 1. Joe Robb reported on the next Interclub scheduled for March 20. This meeting will be with the East Moline/Silvis Club which meets at 6:00 p.m. Joe also handled the presentation of the Interclub group we welcomed from Bettendorf. The Terrific Kids group will be working its magic again this Friday, as it does every Friday. This week, the group will be going to Thomas Jefferson Grade School. Adam announced that while induction of new members had to be tabled for this week due to the fact that the Club had not yet received its new member packets, rescheduling this event for next week should enable us to welcome one more new member. For more of the post mortem on our Use It or Luge It project, Tom Ketelaar introduced some of the benefactors of this inaugural event, as well as the winner of the $500 travel voucher. Tom was also pleased to report that this project earned approximately $850 for the Club. Adam reminded us again of the Club's membership badge sticker program and reminded us of what we need to do to get those stickers off our badges. In Fun and Fellowship, the Kartel won the opportunity for the grand prize. Playing for the Kartel was the wiley Chuck Dyson, who managed to overcome Craig Knobloch to win the big prize. |

The program was given by Cindy Fisher of the Rock Island County Children's Advocacy Center. This group works primarily with children who have been sexually abused. Cindy gave some background history on the group, explaining that at one time, a first call for alleged incidents of this nature used to go to the local police department. The advantage provided by the Center is a less threatening, more pleasant surrounding for interviews and meetings with victims and families. Cindy also explained that money the Center received from the Club had been put to good use for acquiring and utilizing reliable videotaping equipment for this purpose. The last fiscal year, the Center served over 200 cases and also worked with parents and those responsible for the youth. |
