The Opening Act

President Adam "Prince of Luges" Bain conducted the meeting.  Entertainment was provided by Jonathan Turner and his Kiwanis Ski Patrol.

Most of the Club's bankers and financial services professionals were missing, but Daryl Empen was available to lead group singing.

Our first report came from Tom Ketelaar concerning the inaugural "Use It or Luge It" outing this morning.  Eight teams showed up for this first-time event.  All who participated had a great time and Tom looks forward to next year's event, which will be even bigger and better.

President Adam informed us that we could look forward to induction ceremonies next week for four new members to the Club.

By the time you read this, you may or may not have time to join Tom Hanson and his Interclub group going to The Lodge Tuesday, February 16 at noon for an Interclub with the Bettendorf Club.

Guests included three members of the East Moline-Silvis Club, which is planning a trivia night March 12.

Fun and Fellowship was handled by Daryl Empen in the absence of Mike Bell.  The preliminary prize was won by Alicia Shuman, which she graciously donated back to the Club.  The Kartel won the opportunity to win the grand prize, which it managed to wrest from the chagrined Mr. Empen.

The Feature Attracti

The program was given by Kirk Goodman, general manager of the River Bandits.  Kirk began his presentation by sharing three of his fondest baseball memories.  First was going to the Field of Dreams with his father.  The second was meeting Baltimore Orioles legend, Cal Ripken.  The third occurred in 1994, the year when Michael Jordan attempted to play professional baseball with the Birmingham Barons, and Kirk had an opportunity to see him live and in cleats.  Kirk explained that the 2007 acquisition of the local club by new investors breathed new life into the River Bandits.  The focus of the ownership group was to start completely fresh and to emphasize being fan friendly and responsive to the wishes of the fans.  Examples were the process of coming up with a new name, the naming and design of the new mascot, putting backs on many of the seats in the stadium, and new promotion ideas.  Kirk was energetic in his presentation and sincere in his drive toward affordability of the product and making the experience memorable.
