  Upcoming Events/Fundraisers/Dates

We're down to only 3 Dining Tour Books available for sale.  Remember, if we sell all 100 books this, we make an extra profit of $400 for the club.  The books are $35 and can be billed on your Kiwanis quarterly billing.  If you cannot attend a meeting, just let me know (daryl@gaselectriccu.com or call 788-6796), and we will arrange to deliver the books to you.  The books truly do pay for themselves and are an easy way to support the club!
The Opening Act

Our beloved Club President, Prince Adam of Bain, presided over the February 8 meeting.  Entertainment was once again provided by Jonathan Turner and his Kiwanis Who Dat? Chorus.

Daryl Empen served as song leader and impressed the group with the little-known concert version of When the Saints Go Marching In.

Tom Ketelaar gave us another spiel on the Lose It or Luge It event scheduled for February 15.  His coordinating group will be meeting Wednesday for breakfast to work out some final details.

John Califf gave two announcements.  First, he informed us that Daryl Townsend was back home after 11 days in the hospital.  He also stated that his grant committee would be reviewing applications submitted to date.

Joe Robb reminded us that he would be leading an Interclub to The Lodge in Bettendorf at noon on February 16 for a meeting to be hosted by Bettendorf.

Dave Umphrey informed us that the Terrific Kids Caravan would be traveling to Thomas Jefferson Grade School in Rock Island Friday morning.  He is still looking for someone who would be able to assist with a new Terrific Kids venture in the Jordan system which would ordinarily meet Tuesday mornings, twice a month.

Adam informed us that the annual District meeting would be held in Oak Brook this weekend and promised to bring back all sorts of good-to-know Kiwanis information.

Dale Grabau presented one of the Happier Dollars of the day, informing the group that he and his lovely wife, Irene, are celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary.

In Fun and Fellowship, Chris Ford won the preliminary prize, which he graciously donated back to the Club.  Jim Horstmann won the opportunity to go for the grand prize and managed to beat the ordinarily elusive Mike Bell out of the grand prize.

The Feature Attraction

The program was given by Jozette McCoy of Thurgood Marshall Learning Center in Rock Island.  Jozette gave a brief introduction of TMLC, citing the mission of the school and the makeup of its student body.  Her special presentation concerned her class on introducing students to business.  Her students are essentially running a business of building bird houses.  They have enjoyed the assistance of several members of the community but are now needing to benefit from working with some partners in their business.

Future Attractions

Feb. 15  Kirk Goodman - QC River Bandits

Feb. 22  Cindy Fisher - RI County Children's Advocacy Center
