NO MEETING MONDAY, DECEMBER 28TH.

We still have 20 Dining Tour Books available for sale.  These make a great holiday gift for friends, colleagues, or family.  Remember, if we sell all 100 books this, we make an extra profit of $400 for the club.  The books are $35 and can be billed on your Kiwanis quarterly billing.  If you cannot attend a meeting, just let me know (daryl@gaselectriccu.com or call 788-6796), and we will arrange to deliver the books to you.  The books truly do pay for themselves and are an easy way to support the club!
The Opening Act

Two of Santa' favorite helpers assisted at the meeting December 21:  Adam Bain, in presiding over the meeting, and Jonathan Turner, in providing the entertainment.

Adam reiterated announcements made previously, including our joint get-together with Rotary on January 27, the availability of Dining Tour books, a report on the Tom & Jerry party in Davenport last Thursday, and the Club's assistance in conjunction with the Martin Luther King Center holiday party last Wednesday.

In Fun and Fellowship, the Kartel won the preliminary prize, and immediate past President and former Empress, Daphne Ormsby, won the first stage of the grand prize only to manage to lose the whole enchilada on the next go-around.

Guests included longtime Moline Kiwanian and friend of our Club, Mel Peterson, who was pleased to announce that our Club was a leader in contributions to the Foundation and assisted the District in reaching record performance in this show of charity.

Tom Ketelaar announced that there would be a new addition to the soapbox regatta which would involve traveling on the tundra.  More later.

The Feature Attraction

Instead of a formal program, the Club enjoyed another year of its annual Bad Gift Exchange.  Some old favorites made the scene again, including the Fabled Foot (which Jud Briggs got to take home) and the migraine-inducing sport coat and plaid slacks, as well as some new offerings which I'm sure will become old favorites in time.

Future Attractions

Dec. 28            No meeting

A few quotes heard during the meeting:

Q:  "Is this yours or Steve's?"

A:  "Let me look at it first."                - Dale Grabau, who was supposed to be picking up gifts both for himself and for Steve Schroder.

"Sure you don't want that jacket?  You've got one at home just like it."  - Lee Schenck in commenting to Bob Wakefield about why he might want to take the sport coat and slacks gift from a previous winner.

"Another present for Mary."               - Dick Fislar, as he drew a prize from the Bad Gift table.

Since this is the last newsletter of 2009, your Editor would like to take the opportunity to wish all of you a joyous holiday season and a New Year filled with peace, contentment and happiness.
