  Upcoming Events/Fundraisers/Dates
Help wrap Christmas Presents for the upcoming Martin Luther King Center Christmas Party.  If you can help, show up this Saturday, December 12th between 8:30 - 9:00 at the Center.

MLK Center Christmas Party, Wednesday, December 16th.  Please arrive by 4:00 to help.  This is an over 30 year tradition for the club!  Contact Alicia Shuman at alicia@netexpress.net with questions or to let her know you plan on attending.

We still have 25 Dining Tour Books available for sale.  These make a great holiday gift for friends, colleagues, or family.  Remember, if we sell all 100 books this, we make an extra profit of $400 for the club.  The books are $35 and can be billed on your Kiwanis quarterly billing.  If you cannot attend a meeting, just let me know (daryl@gaselectriccu.com or call 788-6796), and we will arrange to deliver the books to you.  The books truly do pay for themselves and are an easy way to support the club!
The Opening Act
The meeting was called to order by one of Santa's favorite little elves, our President, Adam Bain.  Jonathan Turner delighted the membership with his keyboard arrangements and the participation of the Kiwanis Norman Luboff Choir.
Adam reminded us that the annual holiday Bad Gift Exchange would be held December 21.  Yes, there's still time to knock the cobwebs off that old treasure you have in storage and recycle it among your Kiwanis colleagues.
Adam also reminded us that in light of the dates of the holidays and in order to not give any ammunition to those who get really bad gifts on the 21st, there will be no meeting on December 28.
Joe Robb reminded us that the annual Davenport Club Tom & Jerry party will be held December 17.  Dick Fislar can handle any special travel arrangements you might need after the party.
Dale Grabau gave us the current word on Bob VanDeVoorde.  He has returned from Mayo where, after conducting tests, they determined that he had an acid reflux problem.
Dave Umphrey informed us that the next Terrific Kids caravan will be going to Francis Willard grade school in Rock Island at 8:30 this Friday morning, December 11.
Dave also circulated a sheet for those who would be able to participate in our annual Salvation Army bell ringing on Saturday, December 12 at the Milan Hy-Vee.  If you have the time, Dave Luft has the bells.
Tom Plechaty thanked everyone for their participation in the annual cheese drive.  Tom said distribution would be made at next Monday's meeting and that he would appreciate everyone picking up their orders, since he has only recently gotten rid of the rodent problem he had from last year's cheese storage in his garage.
A few Dining Tour books are left, so if you want to be able to take advantage of a deep discount on our social with Rotary after the first of the year, you might want to pick one up.
Guests included members of the Alleman High School Key Club.
In Fun and Fellowship, the preliminary prize went back to the Club, but Lee Schenck won the grand prize on behalf of the Kartel.
The Feature Attraction
The program was given by Mr. Allan Ross, Executive Director of the Jewish Federation of the Quad Cities.  Mr. Ross began with a brief history of the founding of the nation of Israel, following with illustrations of Israel's location in the world relative to the nations surrounding it.  He provided interesting facts about Israeli life and the Jewish influence on the fields of art, science, technology, and military tactics.
Future Attractions

Dec. 14            Glenda Nicke, Associate Dean, Adult and Continuing Education, Black Hawk College
Dec. 21            Annual Bad Gift Exchange
Dec. 28            No meeting
