  Upcoming Events/Fundraisers/Dates

An update on two of our long-time members:

Marilyn Kieffer has suffered a slight stroke and is at home recovering.
Bob VanDeVoorde will be traveling to the Mayo Clinic at weeks end for further tests on his path to recovery.
The Opening Act
     Thank you to member Jeff Behrens for taking notes this week in Bill's absence!
     Alicia Shuman thanked members for serving at Christian Care Center. She says four or five people are needed to work about 45 minutes for future evening serving times.
      Adam Bain announced a Social with Rotary at Circa 21' Dinner Playhouse on Wednesday, January 27th.
      Alicia thanked John Califf for carving seven turkeys at the MLK Jr. Center.
  Joe Robb announced the Tom & Jerry interclub is Thursday, December 17th at Noon at the Davenport Outing Club, six to eight members are needed.
      In attendance at this week's meeting were 50 members and 6 guests, including:
o   Jonathan Turner
o   Mike McNeil of Gere Dismer Architects
o   Amanda Kerr, Rock Island Senior - Key Club
o   Kevin Johnson, Rock Island Senior - Key Club
o   Georgia Kouris, Assistant Principal Rock Island High School

The Feature Attraction
     Program Chair Duncan Reid introduced Rock Island High School boys basketball coach Thom Sigel, who is entering his9th year leading the program.  Highlights of his talk included:
     They open the season by playing Play Aurora West Wednesday night
     The team is "good students, good players with great chemistry."
     Players are working hard but have a lot of work prior to Wednesday night
      They have three returning starters
      The average GPA for all returning team members is 3.1
     He introduced Chason Randle - 4.0 GPA, 1st in junior class, 3rd year on varsity, and DJ Anderson - tied for 2nd in senior class, also 3rd year on varsity
      All teams in WB6 returned several starters and will be better than last year
      Only current goal is to be 1 and 0 while eating Thanksgiving Dinner
      December 4th Rocks host UT Panthers for the celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Fieldhouse.  Includes ceremony before varsity game with players involved in the first game there. Social follows at Rock Island VFW.
