The Opening Act
|
Our
Club President, Adam Bain, called the meeting of November 16 to order. Jonathan Turner once again dazzled us with
his keyboard work.
Gene
Smith presented the Club with two checks in the total amount of $3,109.82 as
its distribution of Deere Classic Birdies Bucks. A giant thank-you to all those Club members
who participated and to Gene for his work in making this project successful.
Alicia
Shuman reminded us that at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 17, the Club would be
serving at the Christian Care Community meal site at 2309 Second Avenue. A similar project will be happening Sunday,
November 22 at the Martin Luther King Center at 7:00 a.m. Our service project there will consist of
helping to prepare for serving a turkey meal.
King
Center holiday party gift wrapping will be Saturday morning, December 12.
Joe
Robb reminded us that at 5:45 Tuesday, November 17, those of us who won't be
helping at the meal site can join Joe for an Interclub in Geneseo. The group is to leave the Moline Lowe's
parking lot at 5:45.
Dave
Umphrey informed us that the Terrific Kids presentation at Thomas Jefferson
Grade School went well last week. This
Friday morning, presentation will be made at Willard Grade School in Rock
Island.
Dave
Luft assured us that our services would be welcomed for Salvation Army bell
ringing. Time and date will be ironed
out shortly.
Our
guests included an Interclub from Galesburg.
Mike
Bell gave the membership a report from the last Club Board meeting.
In
Fun and Fellowship, Bob Tapprich won the preliminary prize, which he graciously
donated back to the Club. Gary Johnson
won the opportunity to go for the grand prize, which he managed to lose.

The Feature Attraction
|
The
program was given by Bob Szorc, Alleman High School boys basketball coach. He presented some of the dilemmas of being a
new coach at a new job but assured the Club members that the Pioneers will once
again uphold all of the positive features of the great Alleman basketball
tradition. The phrase he used was, "Play
hard, play smart and play together."
With a largely young team, he suggested that there will be a lot of
learning while doing and that the team will be working on its fundamentals as
the season goes on.
