The Opening Act
Our Prince of Pancakes, Adam Bain, presided over the November 9 meeting.  Jonathan Turner provided the entertainment, along with his Kiwanis Doo-Wop Singers.
Adam began the meeting by informing the membership that preliminary investigations have implicated Duncan Reid in another missing gavel caper.  Private Club investigation will be made as soon as Adam is able to recover the Board members who, apparently, were also taken by Duncan.
The Club received a very nice thank-you note from Sheila Guse for the gift presented to her and her program at Rock Island High School.
The Terrific Kids program started off last Friday with presentations made at Willard Grade School in Rock Island.  This Friday morning, Dave Umphrey will be leading his Kiwanis Merrymakers to Thomas Jefferson Grade School.
Just as a reminder, our next Interclub gathering will be led by Joe Robb on November 17.  Please call him up if you'd like to spend a nice dinner outing with him.
Tom Plechaty was again seated in the rear corner of the room with his now gently-aged cheese.  He'd appreciate it if all you wanted to do was stop by and chat, but he'd really appreciate it if you could take some of the cheese off his hands.
Alicia Shuman informed us that our annual Martin Luther King Christmas party would be held December 16 at the MLK Center.  Wrapping will be handled on December 12.
Adam informed us that December 15 will mark the 90th birthday of our Club.  Some form of celebration is being planned.
The Coats for Kids project was a smashing success.  Thanks to the generosity of Old Navy and Chick-Fil-A and the work of Alicia Shuman, Dave Umphrey, Marla Andich, Tom Ketelaar, Bob Stecker, Mark Amacher and John Califf, to mention just a few of the participants, the Club was able to outfit 52 kids with approximately $3,800 worth of coats and refreshments for an outlay of less than $500.
Guests included members of the Alleman High School Key Club.
We received updates on Bob VanDeVoorde, as well as Daryl Townsend.  Please keep these two loyal Club members and past Presidents in your best thoughts and prayers.
In Fun and Fellowship, Alicia Shuman won the preliminary prize.  Steve Andich won the right to participate in one of the Club's more confusing grand prize efforts, which he ended up losing anyway.

The Feature Attraction
The program was given by head Augustana College men's varsity basketball coach, Grey Giovanine.  Grey explained that he sees this as being something of a building year to the extent that there is only one senior returning to the team.  A number of freshmen will be seeing court time, including one young man who was heavily recruited by a number of Division I schools.  A highlight of the schedule will be an away game which Grey was able to schedule with Gonzaga University, a Division I powerhouse.
Future Attractions
Nov. 16           Bob Szorc, Alleman coach
Nov. 23           Thom Sigel, Rock Island High School coach
Nov. 30           Presentation of Grants

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
