  Upcoming Events/Fundraisers/Dates
Coats for Kids, Old Navy, Southpark Mall.  Thursday, November 5th.  Meet at the store at 11:45 if you can assist.  Many have already signed up, but the more hands, the easier to handle 50 kids!
The Opening Act
The Baron of Bags, Adam Bain, was in attendance to conduct the November 2 meeting.  Also back from his New York gig was Jonathan Turner with his Kiwanis Big Apple Roadies.
Dave Umphrey gave an announcement concerning our participation in the Terrific Kids program.  Please contact Dave if you would be interested in helping out.
Dining Tour booklets are still available.  From past experience, you only have to go out about three times to get your money back for this booklet, and you help the Club out as well.
Tom Plechaty and his performing cheeses were banished to the far corner of the meeting room, where they will be ensconced for the next five weeks.  Please take some of this stuff off Tom's hands so that the aging process can end.
Joe Robb announced that the next Interclub will be November 17 at Geneseo for a dinner meeting at 6:30.  Give Joe a call if you'd like to have an enjoyable evening.
As another reminder, the Coats for Kids contingent will be meeting at the Old Navy store at SouthPark this Thursday, November 5 at about 11:45.  This is always a wonderful way to be able to give an early start to the holiday season.
Dale Grabau gave some more current news on Bob VanDeVoorde and, in the announcement dollar segment, we were informed about some sudden and unexpected heart problems Bruce Harding experienced over the weekend.  Bruce is mending well.  Please take a moment to give a call of cheer to past President Bob.
Guests included two members of the Rock Island High School Key Club, as well as a prospective member brought by Mike Swartz.
In Fun and Fellowship, Jim Horstmann won the preliminary prize, which he graciously donated back to the Club.  The Kartel won the opportunity to win the grand prize, which it managed to wrestle out of Mike Bell's hands.
The Feature Attraction
The program was given by Jenni Venema of American Rental Association.  Her topic was philanthropy.  She made the interesting observation that hard times often prompt people to think even more about being charitable.  On a philosophical note, she said that it isn't a case of what caused a person to fall down, it's what the person does once he or she gets back up.  National Philanthropy Day is November 15, and the local organization will be sponsoring a luncheon November 11 at the Rock Island Arsenal.  At that time, an award will be given to local philanthropist and community leader, Tom Getz.
Future Attractions
Nov. 9             Grey Giovanine, Augustana coach
Nov. 16           Bob Szorc, Alleman coach
Nov. 23           Thom Sigel, Rock Island High School coach
Nov. 30           Presentation of Grants
