Kiwanis Clock Dedication, Noon, Friday, October 16th. Parking Available in First Lutheran Church Parking Lot.

The Opening Act
|
The
meeting was called to order by our newly-minted Baron of Bisquick, Adam
Bain. Jonathan Turner provided the
entertainment along with the Kiwanis Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.
Adam
gave almost all of the announcements.
The first was to inform us that at 5:00 p.m. this Thursday, the bags
tournament group would be holding its final wrap-up on the project.
This
Friday, October 16 at noon, there will be a dedication of the Club's Kermit
Schroder clock at the site on 18th Avenue in Rock Island.
Dining
tour coupon books are still available.
Snap them up before they're gone.
Adam
followed up on the e-mail which went out to Club members recently concerning
the Coats for Kids program. Arrangements
have been made with the Old Navy store to assist the Club in this project. The store will also be participating in a
program to facilitate contributions to this project.
Next
Monday, October 19, there will be an Annawan Interclub meeting. Connect with your favorite retired Lutheran
minister if you'd be interested.
If
you don't already have it, make sure that you pick up your Club dues statement
next Monday. That renowned agency of
Schenck and Loveless, specializing in collections and bail bonds, assisted in
distribution of the statements at the beginning of the meeting.
Also
as announced through our e-mail network, we were pleased to be informed that
Bob Stecker has been nominated to fill the remaining Board term of Tom
Ketelaar. Following the riotous acclaim
of the seven or eight who voted, Bob was
elected to the position. Congratulations
Bob! Your Editor overheard something
about Bob's taking everyone to lunch later this week, but you'd better call to
make sure.
We
celebrated a number of October birthdays.
In
Fun and Fellowship, the Kartel won the preliminary prize, as well as the shot
at the grand prize. Craig Knobloch
apparently had been schooled well by Mike Bell, since Bob Wakefield and the
Kartel were shut out for the grand prize.

The Feature Attraction
|
The
program was presented by Ms. Michael Gibson of Community Health Care. Michael began by giving some background on
the organization, from its start in 1975 through its current development. CHC runs a dental clinic in Davenport, a
neurology clinic in Davenport, an outreach clinic in Davenport, a combined
medical and dental clinic in Rock Island, and a general medical clinic in
Davenport as well. She expressed the
importance of people having what they consider a medical care home. Michael also addressed certain incorrect
assumptions of the clinic, these being that it is simply a free clinic and that
it is only focused on serving the uninsured.
The CHC facilities are open to all.
She also offered a few thoughts on the pending health care proposals
before congress and observed that a great deal could be accomplished with more
of a focus on preventative care.
