The Opening Act
Newly-inducted Club President, Adam Bain, began his administration by calling the September 28 meeting to order.  As a holdover from the previous administration, Jonathan Turner provided the entertainment along with his Kiwanis Foggy Mountain Boys.
Daryl Empen announced that Dining Tour books are available for sale for the extremely reasonable price of $35.  Buy one soon before Bob Tapprich cleans out our current stock.
Joe Robb announced that the next Interclub meeting will be held in Annawan Monday, October 19 at 6:30.  Let him know if you'd like to join him for one of the Annawan Club's stick-to-the-ribs dinner meetings.
Adam gave a personal recap of the recent bags tournament.  He noted that 45 teams participated, and it appears that the Club will net $5,000 from this venture.  Over 100 people were involved in the tournament, counting the team members and Club volunteers.  Adam gave special thanks to those Club members who volunteered, sponsors of the tournament, and the main tournament sponsor, A.D. Huesing.
Guests included members of the Rock Island Golden K Club, representatives of the Rock Island High School and Alleman High School Key Clubs, a former St. Ambrose Circle K member and guest of Liz Loveless, and John Califf's wife.
To kick things up on a high note for the start of Adam's administration, there was a flood of Happy/Sad Dollars, including a warm "welcome back" dollar to longtime Club member, Milt Hedquist.
In Fun and Fellowship, the preliminary prize went to Steve Schroder, who graciously donated it back to the Club.  The Kartel won the opportunity to play for the grand prize and noted St. Louis Cardinal fanatic, Dick Fislar, was selected to play for the Kartel.  He won his first round and was certain he had won the grand prize when the question posed was whether the next card drawn would be higher or lower than a three.  Dick went with the odds and, showing his magic touch, Mike Bell managed to have a two drawn.
We were also pleased to participate in a special presentation as John Califf became the Club's newest recipient of the Hixson Award.  Congratulations to you, John, for all of your dedicated work on behalf of Kiwanis.
The Feature Attraction
The program was given by Jennifer Hollenback of Trinity Regional Health System.  Jennifer's presentation centered on the relatively new robotic surgery system in use at Trinity.  She began by explaining how the system works and the background of the DaVinci system.  With film, she showed how procedures were done with this device.  She wrapped up by discussing the advantages of this system over direct hand procedures.  A number of thoughtful comments and questions followed her presentation.
