The Opening Act

President Ormsby was at new heights as she got the meeting off and running. She let Cathy Rochau handle the invocation but took over again as song leader. It makes for an interesting musical interlude when the song leader stands too close to the microphone.
There were 49 members in attendance and 3 guests. Even with smaller numbers there were 17 Happy/Sad Dollars generated. They ranged from celebrating the first day of school to celebrating a basset hounds first swim in the Mississippi. Alicia has reached the 29th wedding anniversary milestone and Daryl Empen the 15 year plateau.
A group was going to Aledo on Wednesday to golf and the tournament in Kewanee is coming up. Our next inter-club visit will be an evening trip to East Moline/Silvis on Monday, August 31st.
In honor of her 29th Wedding Anniversary, Alicia won both drawings in Fun & Fellowship. Both were for an incredible $4. If that is going towards a dinner out she may want to confer with Dale Grabau.
1st Vice President Adam Bain gave us the latest update on the upcoming Bags Tournament. The Hy-Vee in Milan will be catering the event and donating back 15% of the profits. Marketing
sponsorships and promotion is being worked on at a feverish pitch with
media spots beginning about 45 days out from the tournament. The building party was taking place this week. A
full medical report on casualties will be available at Monday's meeting
and an additional inter-club for August may be scheduled at Trinity if
necessary. The Expo Center in Rock Island has been set as the rain location for the tournament.

The Feature Attraction

Chuck Oestreich was kind enough to fill in as our program after a last minute cancellation. Chuck is an avid bicyclist and started by giving a brief history of bicycling in America. Used for transportation in the 1880's bicycles paved the way for improvement of roadways. Then the bicycle took a back seat to the automobile and was used primarily for recreation. There was a return in the 1960's as thin wheels, low handle bars and gears became the norm. Today Rock Island is a leader in the Quad Cities as the roads are made more bicycle friendly.
