  Upcoming Events/Fundraisers/Dates
Rose Day, Wednesday, April 22nd.

Peanut Day, May 8-9If you are interested in purchasing a case of peanuts for $25, please contact Mike Bell (mbell@ambankqc.com) to place your order.  These "pre-sales" are a great way to help raise funds for the club and the peanuts make a great snack for your office staff, in addition to raising awareness of Kiwanis.  Your order can be billed to your Kiwanis dues invoice.
Opening Act
While your Editor was out of town, I noticed that the Club membership had designated President Denise Ormsby as Empress and in keeping with that new tradition, I'll go along with that.  The Empress called the meeting to order.  Jonathan Turner wasn't able to attend but, fortunately, there are a few people who can carry a tune, so we struggled through the opening formalities.
Empress Daphne informed us that the top three salespersons for Rose Day were Steve Andich, Bob Tapprich and Dave Temple.
Operating without a net, our fearless leader informed us that the telethon is still scheduled for 4:00 to 5:00 on Sunday but that it is now being operated through Channel 8.  If you want more details on this, I would suggest contacting Denise.
Concerning the NAMI Walk, Liz Loveless made a plea for walkers and people making pledges.
We were also reminded of the Rod Jennings Memorial Rebuilding Project to be held on the 25th.
Mike Bell reminded us that Peanut Days would be occurring on May 8 and 9 and that assistance will be greatly appreciated.
Adam Bain informed us that the First Annual Interplanetary Bean Bag Tournament is moving along and that accommodations for this event include moving the date, as well as the location, at the Campbell complex.  Fifteen volunteers will be needed.
In the spirit of following the mantra "change is good", Dick Fislar informed us that the Kiwanis 5K Lurch and Stagger will now be held June 27 at Sunset Marina.
Empress Daphne informed us that she would be attending the National Convention in Nashville and that in anticipation of this event, she would start working on having big hair.
We were delighted to not only induct new member, Aaron Matlock, but also welcomed a prospective member and guest of Mike Swartz.
Jim Horstmann gave us a report on Joe Robb.  Joe is weathering through what was a serious heart operation.
In Fun and Fellowship, Bob Tapprich won the preliminary prize, which he graciously donated back to the Club.  The Kartel won the opportunity for the grand prize, and Dick Fislar was appointed to represent the Kartel in Mike Bell's contest and managed to lose in Mike's game.

The Feature Attraction
The program was given by Mike Zapolski, the new Athletic Director at Augustana.  Mike gave a very informative presentation on the philosophy of NCAA Division III schools.  He also shared a number of interesting items of information, highlighting differences between Division III and Division I.  As examples, there are 331 Division I schools and 429 Division III schools.  For the 2007/2008 year, the NCAA received approximately $614 million in revenue, 3.18 percent of which went to cover expenses of Division III schools.  Over 90 percent of the total NCAA revenue package is attributable to network broadcast rights and ticket sales from the men's basketball tournament.
