Rose Day, Wednesday, April 22nd
Peanut Day, May 8-9

| Opening Act |
President Denise Ormsby called the
meeting to order. Jonathan Turner again
provided entertainment, along with his Kiwanis All Star Shoe Band.
The
first announcement came from Liz
Loveless, who thanked pledge-givers and bowlers in conjunction with the bowling
tournament this past weekend. Once
again, Liz showed that hard work can
bring about great results. Rumor has it
that next year, she'll be working on her bowling.
One-time
Moline Kiwanian, Mel Peterson, presented several awards to Liz from the Circle K gathering Mel attended in Champaign this past
weekend.
Don't
forget about the Mega-Meeting the evening of March 17. The cost is $30 apiece.
We
were also reminded of the Governor's visit April 4 at Lavender Crest.
Monday
was the first day that Rose Day tickets were available. Impress those people you need to impress and
be generous with your purchases.
Tom
Stontz reminded us of the symposium being sponsored by Alleman High School Key
Club March 22 featuring our own Mark Schwiebert.
Guests
included an Interclub from Bettendorf
and representatives of the Alleman High School Key Club.
Adam
Bain will be having another organizational meeting for the bags
tournament. If you have some thoughts or
ideas, meet with Adam and his team at 5:00
p.m. this Thursday, March 12 at Pizza & Subs.
A
representative of the Community Caring Conference was in attendance to say a
few words about her organization and extend the organization's thanks for the
Club's $250 gift.
In
Fun and Fellowship, the Kartel won the preliminary prize. Bob Tapprich won the opportunity to go for
the grand prize but, as usual, Mike Bell saved the day.

| The Feature Attraction |
The program was given by Mary
Lagerblade and Pryce Boeye, Jr. from Rock Island County Kids First
Committee. This organization is
supporting a one-cent retail sales tax increase in Rock Island County. Mary shared how, in her career as a realtor,
she found that many people relocating to the area focus first on schools and
then look at the neighborhood in which the school is situated. A similar program has operated in Scott County
during the past 10 years, and with its program, over $153,000,000 has been made
available for the purpose of capital improvements. If approved, an estimated $13,000,000 a year
would be distributed to school districts within Rock Island County
proportionate to school enrollment. The
tax will not be assessed against groceries, cars, boats, recreational vehicles,
drugs, medical supplies, farm equipment, and farm implement parts.
