Kiwanis Night at the QC Flames, March 7th

Rose Day, Wednesday, April 22nd
Opening Act
Last week, Queen Daphne had mentioned that she would be out of town for our February 23 meeting, so First Vice President Adam Bain capably filled in.  Entertainment, as always, was provided by Jonathan Turner and his Rock Island Kiwanis Academy of Motion Pictures Orchestra.
Adam reminded us that March 7 is Kiwanis Hockey Night and that an incentive prize is the use of the A. D. Huesing box for those who sell the most tickets.
Those of us who were not already aware were saddened to hear of the recent passing of former member, Charlie Cox.
Liz Loveless gave us her first reminder of the Kiwanis bowling tournament March 8 at 1:00 p.m.  At this time, our Rock Island team not only needs bowlers but also pledges for those participating.  Please be generous and sharply-dressed in those bowling shirts.
We welcomed a number of guests at the meeting, including Interclubs from Aledo and Moline and representatives of the Rock Island High School and Alleman High School Key Clubs.
The Happy/Sad Dollar portion of the program included a happy wedding anniversary dollar from Jerry Jones.
In Fun and Fellowship, Jim Horstmann won the preliminary prize, which he graciously donated back to the Club.  Dave Temple qualified for the grand prize, but Mike Bell again managed to keep the Club treasury intact.
The Feature Attraction
The program was given by Eric Rowell, from the development office at Augustana College, and his wife, Amy.  The program consisted of a slide presentation on the Rowells' trip to Washington, DC for the recent Presidential inauguration.  Eric gave a delightful presentation, explaining the various places they saw while in Washington, DC, including anecdotes with almost every slide.  It looked and sounded like it was a wonderful and very memorable trip.

Future Attractions

March 9           Mary Lagerblade, Local Option Sales Tax
March 16         John Bustle, Mgr, Corporate Citizenship, Deere & Co. y
March 23         Samantha DeYoung, Rock Island County Animal Shelter
