Dear Friends of At Home Solutions:
Have you heard that MetLife is no longer selling Long Term Care Insurance?
Did you know that John Hancock's Long Term Care rates have increased 40%?
Long Term Care Insurance is becoming a popular insurance plan to purchase as more boomers understand they will need some kind of financial assistance to pay for care as they age.
Just like with insurance on our homes and cars, we hope to never trigger long term care insurance. However statistics show that 2 out of 3 people over the age of 65 will require extended care at some point in their life.
The government knows that there is not enough money both at the state and federal levels to pay for care as our population ages. They want us to personally take responsibility and put money aside for assistance if we need it.
They are going to launch their own Long Term Care Plan called CLASS Act (Community Living Assistance Services and Supports Act) in the next few years http://www.aaltci.org/long-term-care-insurance/learning-center/CLASS-Act.php/.
This is one way to encourage us to plan ahead.
I just bought my own policy a few years ago understanding that when / if I need care it is going to be exponentially more expensive than it is now. I can't depend upon my family, friends or neighbors to pitch in - who's to know where we'll all be at that point in our lives?
Learn more about what long term care insurance options are available for you and your loved ones. It's free to price out the various plans from a number of insurance companies.
Click here to learn more from the American Association for Long Term Insurance: http://www.aaltci.org/ and if you'd like names of local professionals that we know in the industry, don't hesitate to ask.
For your peace of mind and comfort, it is possible to stay safe, secure and independent with compassionate Caregivers and Home Health Care Services. I am thankful for all of you who have referred us to your loved ones, clients, neighbors or friends who needed assistance.
Please continue to keep us in mind and contact me personally if I can be of any support to you or a loved one.
In Gratitude, Kristin Kopp

Welcyon, Fitness After 50
As we get older, many of us become weaker and develop a fear of falling. That fear may cause you to limit your activities and reduce your mobility. So much of it comes down to leg strength. Research shows weak legs (quadriceps) are the biggest predictor of going into a nursing facility.
Luckily, regular exercise can build strength and help aging adults maintain independence. So what are your fitness options -- especially when traditional gyms can be intimidating?
Welcome to Welcyon, Fitness After 50. From equipment and staff to our welcoming atmosphere, Welcyon is designed specifically for those 50 and over. Our fitness coaches develop customized workout programs for each individual and provide a one-on-on orientation to help members get familiar with equipment and exercise protocols. Fitness coaches are always on hand to provide additional guidance, motivation and support. Welcyon even has a social area that's ideal for sharing a cup of coffee with a friend, playing cards or doing a puzzle. Welcyon has two clubs in Edina and Bloomington. The staff would welcome the opportunity to show you around the fitness centers and tell you more about the program. For more information, visit welcyon.com.

Enhancing opportunities
for aging adults to live independently.
Store To Door is a non-profit grocery shopping and delivery service for homebound seniors ages 60 and up. Bad weather this winter has swelled new client registration, and we are busier than ever before!
Volunteer Order Takers are urgently needed to call clients for their grocery order during the day or on nights or weekends. Volunteer Order Takers work from their own home or office and the time commitment is just one hour per week.
We also have an urgent need for Volunteer Shoppers on Friday mornings (between 6-10am) at our St. Anthony Cub Foods location. This is the perfect opportunity for those that love grocery shopping and enjoy working with a team of other volunteers.
Training is provided for both the Volunteer Order Taker and the Volunteer Shopper roles. Contact Kristen at 651-642-1892 ext 131 or kristen@storetodoor.org for more information on how to get started today.

Make Sure Your Home is Safe!
The Saint Paul Fire Department invites elderly homeowners to take part in "Project Safe Haven." Those interested will receive a home/fire safety checklist and a short form to complete. When finished with the checklist, firefighters will make a courtesy visit to your home to make sure your smoke alarms work.
If needed they will install a free smoke alarm and/or digital carbon monoxide alarm. The program is free and open to all Saint Paul owner-occupied single family homes, including townhomes and condos. Call 651-228-6273 for more information.

Kris D.
Hi! I'm Kris and I just had my 1 year anniversary with AHS. This is by far the best job I have ever had. I'm an RN and my special interest is working with older adults.
Being the youngest of 6 children, I'm very familiar with being surrounded by older and wiser people to depend on for advice and wisdom. One of my favorite proverbs is, "The beauty of young men (and women) is their strength, the beauty of old men (and women) is their wisdom."
I helped care for my parents when they needed help in their later years, and even though there were challenging and sad moments , we had some of the best times, the funniest times, the best conversations and the best displays of affection and understanding that we had ever had.
I love the concept of "Home Care", where older adults who have physical or memory issues can be cared for in their own home where they have all there own "stuff" and they are familiar with their surroundings.
When I'm not working, I'm spending time with my 3 kids, husband and 4 cats. I love to be outside - just enjoying the blue sky and trees and birds, and reading a good book with a cat in my lap. |
