Dear Friends of At Home Solutions:

As part of our mission, we are in partnership with our families to ensure our clients get the best possible care. In light of this, my staff has adopted a Client Responsibilities sheet (edited from Acorns End) which provides our families with some helpful hints so everyone is successful when caring for our clients.

Here is a brief except from this document:

Clients and/or the client's responsible party have the responsibility...

1.     To notify At Home Solutions of changes in their condition (i.e.: hospitalization, changes in care following hospitalization, changes in medications, new or changed symptoms).

2.     To participate in the development of the plan of care.

3.     To advise At Home Solutions of problems or dissatisfaction with billing or services

provided.

4.     To provide a safe environment in which to provide care.

5.     To treat At Home Solutions employees with courtesy and respect.

I feel certain that if families, professionals in the senior community, clients and staff all treat each other with respect and kindness with a professional attitude, we can continue to do wonderful work in what many times can be very stressful, difficult situations.

If you would like to receive our complete Client Responsibility list, please let us know.

For your peace of mind and comfort, it is possible to stay safe, secure and independent at home with compassionate Caregivers and Home Health Care Services. I am thankful for all of your referrals to your loved ones, clients, neighbors, co-workers or friends who've needed some assistance.

Please continue to keep us in mind and contact me personally if I can be of any assistance to you.

In Gratitude,

Gifts for Seniors Program

At Home Solutions is proud to be a partner with the Gifts for Seniors program. We are an official drop off site for this wonderful opportunity to give back to older adults who may not receive any gifts this holiday season. Here is a little bit about their services:

Established in 1994 as a private/public partnership between KLBB Radio and the Hennepin County Human Services Department, Gifts for Seniors remembers our elderly neighbors who are alone during the holidays, providing gifts and reasurances that they have not been forgotten. Since its inception Gifts for Seniors has provided services for more than 10,000 isolated seniors in the greater metro area. This has been accomplished with the help of many donations and the generous support of numerous collaborating agencies.

Please come to our offices to drop off a gift today and visit our new space!

Get ready for the Flu season!

Did you know that Minnesota has already had 2 seniors die from the flu this season? The MN Department of Health is encouraging everyone who works with seniors or children to get vaccinated as these populations are the most susceptible to contract the virus.

The website to learn more about what's going on with the flu in MN go to: http://www.health.state.mn.us/divs/idepc/diseases/flu/index.html.

This year, for the first time, a new, high-dose flu vaccine is available for people over age 65. The high-dose flu shot contains four times the amount of antigens to induce a higher immune response in seniors.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the vaccine was created because the human immune defenses become weaker with age, which places older people at greater risk of severe illness from influenza. Also, aging decreases the body's ability to have a good immune response after getting flu vaccine. A higher dose of antigen in the vaccine is supposed to give older people a better immune response and therefore better protection against flu.

Seniors can choose from the regular dose flu vaccine,or Fluzone High-Dose, which is the name of the new vaccine designed specifically for people age 65 and over. Both vaccines will protect against the same three flu viruses.

Medicare will pay for the flu shot once every flu season. The high-dose shot has been shipped to doctors' offices, pharmacies and long-term care facilities around the country, but because it's a new product, it's not as widely available as the standard flu shot.

Particle of Wisdom

Frozen in a sea shell, many years have passed

All these bones are buried

Now, I'm here at last

Frozen in the shell of years far past

Feeling like a fossil

I am here at last

Who will walk with me when I can't walk

Who will be with me when I stop making sense

Who to comfort my aches and lasting pains

Who is going to know me when I don't?

Know me again.

Particle of wisdom.

Richmond has a Bachelor of Elective Studies Degree from Saint Cloud State university. His emphasis of study was emotional behavioral disorders among children. He enjoys listening to and performing music, photography and spending time in nature.

This song/poem by Richmond was inspired by his grandmother, and written to express his respect and appreciation for the elderly.
