Dear Friends of At Home Solutions:

Spring is near! Our snow is finally melting, birds are starting to build their nests and there is a sense of eagerness as our lakes begin to thaw. Waterskiing - here we come!

Our life stories are very important to share with each other. Hopefully by sharing a bit of ourselves, we can spare others the pain of our mistakes, share a laugh or help them through a tough time. Here are a few stories of how we've helped families this past quarter:

*    A family in Plymouth knew it was time to move their father from co-op living to a memory care apartment. There was no room for a 24 hour live in Caregiver where he was currently living, so we provided alternative housing information to start the search. The family toured a few facilities and picked one in Hopkins. We helped the client acclimate to his new surroundings and continued to reassure the family that they were making the right choice and their dad was going to be much safer.

*    A client in Minneapolis does not want to go through a packing / sorting process by herself in preparation for a move. She called us to provide reassurance during this stressful time and to provide home watch services while her home was occasionally vacant.

*   In St. Paul we had a client of ours faint while we were working with him. We called 911, notified his family and went to the hospital to comfort him during this stressful situation. The family was all out of state and appreciated our Caregiver's quick response and our management team's regular updates as his condition progressed.

*    A gentleman in Burnsville had a chronic illness. Eventually we supported Hospice with his care at home but shortly thereafter he passed away. His wife, still living at home, has requested that we stay on and provide her with overnight Caregiver visits to provide her companionship and peace of mind for her family.

*    In Richfield, a client calls on us weekly to provide transportation to run errands, go out to lunch and get to the doctor safely. She is relieved to know that we have trustworthy, reliable and screened employees who can get her around town as needed on a weekly basis.

We are here to ensure that anyone who needs assistance at home (whether recovering from surgery, Caregivers needing respite time, stressed out mothers, older adults or people with disabilities) have the services they need. Light homemaking, chore services, meal preparation, medication reminders, downsizing / decluttering / organizing, stand-by-showering assistance, incidental transportation services are all available 2-24 hours per day, seven days a week.

It is possible to age safely in place with compassionate Caregivers and Home Management Services.

Please contact me personally if I can be of any assistance to you or a loved one.

We are here to help.

In Gratitude,

Protect Your family's Assets With Long Term Care Insurance

Calling all adult children of aging parents: Did you know that many families have to sell off family assets to provide long term care services for their aging parents? Those seniors planning to just let the government take care of them with Medicaid are often shocked to learn that to qualify, they need to sell off their assets down to $2,000.

In other words, Medicaid is for the destitute. Medicare isn't much better; in fact, it was never designed to provide long term care benefits.  Meanwhile, the cost of long term care is skyrocketing.

So what is the answer to this costly dilemma? Long term care insurance.   No longer is it just for nursing home patients; in fact, nearly 85% of long term benefits are now paid out to allow patients to stay in their homes. Some families are figuring out how to make it affordable:  the siblings get together and pool their resources to pay the premiums for their parents' long term care insurance policies. Some have even figured out how to save thousands by going in together to purchase a single-payment Immediate Income Annuity with a ten-year monthly payout, with those monthly payments covering the premiums for long term care insurance to be paid up in ten years.

One couple recently bought an income annuity for $166,000 and in ten years that will have paid for over $1.2 million in long term care benefits available to them in their later years. This means that the rest of their retirement savings and holdings will be passed on to their children and grandchildren, since their insurance will eliminate the need to sell off assets.

Kerry

Kerry A.  has been with At Home Solutions, LLC since July of 2008. She works with several older adults in the Twin Cities area. When asked why she enjoys working with them, Kerry replied,"My position has taught me so much about patience, and genuine empathy. I am inspired daily to do my very best to help seniors maintain thier quality of life." When she is not working, Kerry spends her time writing, reading, and collecting new music. She also enjoys exploring the city with her friends and setting up "play dates " for her Italian Greyhound.

Thank you Kerry for all of your hard work and dedication to At Home Solutions and for helping the Twin Cities' Seniors maintain their dignity and independence!

For Mother's Day!!!
A message from Angela Marbles

It's that time of year when we really want to do something to help make the Holiday's special for people in our community.  And this Mother's Day, I am especially remembering our elderly who are no longer in their homes, but in various facilities.

I have decided that I want to give back by adopting the residents of our local nursing homes!  I would like to present each one of these special women with a wonderful gift bag for Mother's Day. I have found that sometimes this may be the only gift some of them will receive!

I am asking the  individuals and businesses in the community to help me with this project by adopting residents, whole floors of facilities or the whole facility for Mother's Day.  Your $22 donation will sponsor a special gift for one resident and enable them to be blessed knowing that someone is thinking of them.  A special Happy Mother's Day card will be attached to the gift with your name on it, so they will know that it is a gift from you and your business.

I have come up with a deadline of April 15th so that I may personally prepare and deliver the gift bags to the various facilities in time for Mother's Day. Of course, I would love for us to be able to gift to hundreds even thousands of these wonderful women.

Thank you so much for making the holiday's special for the sometimes forgotten residents of our Community!
