Supportive Housing Program
Operation Care's Supportive Housing Program provides supportive housing and services that allow homeless victims of domestic violence to live as independently as possible. Operation Care has partnered with HUD and Calaveras Women's Center and is currently providing for 3 families. This program requires participants to attend a variety of Domestic Violence support groups as well as financial literacy classes, and to prepare resumes in order to attain gainful employment. Operation Care Clients are required to maintain drug free homes and work closely with a case manager.

Today's teens are continually subjected to peer pressure, bullying, media, technology, and a great deal of stimulus to their minds and bodies, but are they receiving the tools to keep them safe and in healthy relationships? Operation Care is launching a new program to address these issues with youth age 12 - 18 in a fun and informative format. The program dubbed "GO!" focuses on providing youth with the tools to help prepare them for the future, and the skills to prevent bullying, sexual assault, drugs, and all types of violence.

Staff Spotlight
 | Karyn Perry, Program Specialist |
For the next few issues, we will continue to spotlight members of our staff. Karyn Perry
"I work with some really amazing people here at Operation Care. It's been said among us several times that we all work here for a unique reason. Although all of us have a distinctive drive that pushes to do what we do, we all share the common denominator of the desire to serve. At the end of this month, I will have been here for a year. It's been a year of learning and exploring-learning what it takes to try and help someone along in their goals from point a to b, and sometimes even z, and exploring new ways of achieving those goals on an individual basis. I work here because through it all, hearing a smile in someone's voice that used to only sound of fear and regret makes it all worth it. I work here because the sound of one smile can negate the sound of 10 tears". Karyn joined Operation Care in July 2011 as a Program Specialist. Her job is to help victims of domestic violence or sexual assault by providing one-on-one peer counseling and support services such as assistance with the restraining order process, court accompaniment and advocacy. Karyn earned AA degrees in Administration of Justice and Social and Behavior Science and is currently working on her BS degree in Criminal Justice and Child Development. Thank you Karyn for the great inspiration you have been over the past year, and congratulations on one year of service to survivors!
