Wear Denim on "DENIM DAY"!! April 27th, 2011

Why Denim?
Wearing jeans during April is a symbol of protest of harmful attitudes about rape in response to an Italian Supreme Court decision to overturn a rape conviction because the victim wore jeans. This decision did not recognize that coercion, threats, and force are a part of the act of rape regardless of what the victim may, or may not, be wearing.
During the month of April, which is nationally proclaimed as Sexual Assault Awareness Month, "Why Denim?" posters will be displayed throughout the county to increase public awareness, and denim pins will be distributed at various locations to wear on Denim Day.
Another way to show support for victims of sexual assault is by wearing or displaying a teal ribbon. Baskets with teal ribbons and denim pins will be distributed at various locations during the month, or you can obtain them at Operation Care's office in Jackson.

(L-R) Ashley Carnicello, Dezi Valadez, Linda Crabtree and Tammie Crabtree
|
Members of Operation Care's staff formed a team to help raise money for child abuse prevention, and had fun bowling, too! B usinesses, community members, volunteers, and fabulous fund-raising bowlers made the 3rd Annual Bowl-a-Thon a great success. Over $16,700 in donations were raised, plus 167 pounds of food was collected for the Interfaith Food Bank!

Important Note
Our recently appointed Executive Director, Clara Osborne resigned her position last week, to move out of the area to be closer to her fiancé. This will in no way affect the services provided to our clients. Our direct service staff, guided by our Deputy Director Tammie Crabtree, remain devoted to their work and will seamlessly continue providing services to those in need. Along with our staff and board of directors, I look forward to speaking personally with you at our open house on April 13th.
