Tap Into Your Creativity - Bring Your Electronic Gadgets !
Patrons who attend ZviDance's work-in-progress showing of Zoom
on Saturday, December 12, at MASS MoCA may be surprised when artistic
director Zvi Gotheiner asks them to not only leave their cell phones on
but actually encourages the use of electronic devices and the taking of
photos during the performance. Cell phones are a crucial part of the
piece which will use dance, music, and video projection to explore the
evolving landscape of virtual communities. The piece will premiere in
New York in April, but MASS MoCA patrons can get a sneak preview and
assist in Zoom's creative development during this special showing in North Adams.
During the performance, the audience will be invited to participate in
the visual design by taking pictures during the performance and then
emailing or texting them to the visual designer, who will use them in
the real-time video collages being projected on the stage. The
projected "crowd sourced" content will spark a series of improvisatory
dance and musical codes Zvi Gotheiner and composer Scott Killian will
have set on the dancers. Participate in a work of art!

Make a Few Pitstops in Pittsfield... In a partnership between the Ferrin Gallery, the Berkshire Museum, and the Pittsfield Cultural Council, the work of painter Maggie Mailer is on view - catch the show before it closes at the end of the year. Mailer, the founder of Storefront Artist Project in 2002 established
public working environments for artists in unoccupied spaces in
Pittsfield. Mailer states, "In the past year, I've used the 19th-century romantic
landscape as a screen for ideas in my paintings about beauty, presence,
and danger." While you're there, kids (of any age) will enjoy the Berkshire Museum's 25th annual Festival of Trees - a mammoth exhibition of trees decorated by local organizations. December 12th is family day, so bring the whole gang! Click here for a listing chock-full of arty events in Pittsfield - from the Storefront Artists Salon & Discussion at the Ferrin Gallery to a candlelight and chocolate tour at Herman Melville's Arrowhead and much more!
