I used to have a client .... who hated going to work everyday and wanted to enjoy what she was doing more. A lot of people say this and they think that if they just 'change their mind' they will still be able to stick it out in a job/environment/world which really doesn't suit them. What we did was look at her values as a person and the skills that she had and also looked at the correlation between them all. ie. someone who has a value of 'freedom' as very important will make completely different decisions to someone who values 'money.' I can type and love working with others but I don't want to be a secretary any more. As it turned out we worked on an exit strategy to get her out of that job and set up her own business in event management within 6 months. She reconnected with her top 4 values (thinking back to the last time she was motivated) and worked out what job using her current skill set would give her the same feeling. When you are feeling 'under valued' at work - it just means your own values are not being met. See if they can be met elsewhere in your life - if not, you may need to make some big decisions to change career direction. Think how much happier you will be on the other side. |
