Spring has Sprung!
I have been loving the gorgeous weather and spending time in my yard- planting veggies and pulling up weeds. I find it super grounding and I am committed to growing some of my own food this year.
We have a significant deer issue here in Marin-they devour everything! So I decided to deer proof part of my deck (yes, they come up on the deck!) and grow veggies in giant tubs to prevent them from getting chomped. This is a great way to go if you don't have a plantable yard space or live in an urban environment.
The value of consuming home grown food, no matter how small, cannot be underestimated. Even growing some sprouts or having a basil plant in the kitchen will contribute to your health and vitality. So go for it!
For many, the beauty and vitality of spring is accompanied by the fatigue and unattractive runny puffy sneezy snotty itchy redness of hayfever and seasonal allergies. In this newsletter, I will share with you some helpful and effective products and tips, like the time tested Ayurvedic practice of using a Neti pot, to manage allergy symptoms so you can feel beautiful and vital again!
I also need to re-iterate how helpful a simple cleanse can be for managing and decreasing allergies. In a recent survey of people who have participated in my Essential Cleanse Program, allergy sufferers reported a 77% decrease in uncomfortable allergy symptoms as a result of the 2-week program.

Breathe Easier With Nasal Irrigation!Time after time, my patients with allergies or sinus issues share that daily irrigation is the single most effective thing they can do to manage their congestion and nasal irritation. .  A nasal wash helps to:- Clear the nostrils and start the day breathing freely
- Remove excess mucus
- Rid nostrils of allergens
- Cleanse the nasal passages of dust
- Relieves nasal dryness
- Dissolve mucus build-up in dry climates
- Improve the flow of breath before exercising or doing relaxation
The nasal passages are one of our
body's first lines of defense against disease. They are lined with a
thin layer of mucus that traps dirt, dust, pollen, germs, and other
airborne particles. If the delicate balance of this environment is not
maintained, it becomes easier for bacteria, viruses, and other
irritants to penetrate the nasal lining and cause problems. Nasal
irrigation helps to wash these impurities and excess mucus out of the
body.
- Add 1/2 tsp of sea salt in 1 cup of warm filtered water to Neti pot. You can also add certain herbs and essential oils to enhance the anti-microbial or anti-inflammatory effects of the irrigation.
- Insert the spout of the pot into one nostril, tilt your head and gently allow the water to flow out of your opposite nostril while you breathe through your mouth.
- When the pot is empty, exhale sharply through your nostrils to remove any excess water.
- Repeat on the other side

For more effective results, add hot & cold compresses: You will need 2 small bowls and 2 washcloths.
- Fill one bowl with very hot water and
the other one with ice cold water. Put a washcloth in each bowl.
- Wring out the hot cloth and apply to
your nose/sinus area for 1
minute.
- Switch to the cold towel
for 30 seconds.
- Alternate back and
forth 3 times.
- If you are in a
pinch, use 1 washcloth and run it under hot or cold tap water respectively.
- Follow with the compresses with a Neti Pot

Green Power Soup

Green soups are a super concentrated source of powerful nutrients, anti-oxidants and nature's detoxifiers. Have a raw soup for lunch with some raw crackers, as a between meal supercharger or fast for a day on this soup and you will be ready to conquer the world!!
1 cup cucumber, peeled and diced 2 stalks of celery 2 packed cups fresh spinach leaves 1/4 cup arugula 1/2 cup of fresh cilantro coarsely chopped 1 avocado, peeled, pitted and diced 1 small clove of garlic (optional) pinch of salt or a tablespoon of garbanzo miso 1 tsp of fresh lemon juice
Experiment with changing up the flavor by adding different herbs such as dill, parsley, basil or watercress, or a pinch of cayenne pepper!
Directions: Add all ingredients to a blender. Mix for seconds until blended, but not completely smooth. Pour into a bowl or mug and serve. Fell free to garnish with raw pumpkin seeds, diced avocados or scallions.

Cory Reddish, ND received her doctorate from the National College of
Naturopathic Medicine in Portland, Oregon in 1998, and is licensed in
both California and Washington. She founded the Uptown Center of
Natural Medicine and Uptown Natural Pharmacy in Port Townsend, WA,
where she enjoyed a thriving practice. Dr. Cory has been a guest
faculty member at several colleges and retreat centers. She relocated
to the Bay Area in 2005, and practices in San Francisco and Marin with a
