"Julie's plein air workshop in
Southern France was wonderful! Her class and all the individual attention I received really helped me develop my own style. If you love art, beautiful scenery, European history, good food and wine, wonderful accommodations and service, you should definitely take this trip. It was one of the most magical experiences I have ever had!"

Love Art? Love France? Experience the Best of Both!
An Imtimate View

Consider attending a ten day painting class  in southwestern France.
Our daily painting excursions will take you to the unspoiled villages, market towns and rolling farmland  of the Dordogne and Lot Valleys. We'll visit bastide towns such as Saint Cirq la Popie, colorful market towns such as Sarlat, and the famous pilgrimage site of Rocamador. We'll have an opportunity to see where painting began with a visit to the 15,000 year old cave paintings of Pech Merle.

Capturing the beauty of the  landscape lies primarily in the ability to portray the light relationships one sees. Workshop emphasis  will be on the dynamics of painting the landscape based on fundamental principles of composition, line, shape, focal point, color, value, as well as controlling texture and edges. We will cover the basic principles of light, how to determine the color of light, and how to create the movement of light on the canvas using analogous and split complement colors to illustrate color, value and light relationships.
