We have all heard that carrots are good for your eyes (obviously, we have by the looks of our logo).
While that's true, there are many more foods that can benefit eyesight.

While carrots do contain nutritional value, spinach and other dark, leafy greens prove to be the healthiest foods for eyes because they contain large amounts of antioxidants lutein and zeaxanthin.

Give children foods rich in key nutrients like antioxidants lutein and zeaxanthin, essential fatty acids, vitamins C and E and the mineral zinc to protect their eye sight and, hopefully, prevent problems later in life.

March 2009
Greetings!

KindergartenRoundupsKindergarten Roundups will be in full swing within the next few months.

In preparing for school, remember that a vision exam is required in addition to a physical exam.

Vision plays a crucial role in a child's ability to learn, and we want to be sure they get the best start possible!

Here are some resources for parents, guardians, educators, early childhood providers:
Please feel free to share these resources, or include them in Kindergarten Roundup packets.

Recent NFCV Activities
  • On March 19th, in Omaha, Neil Powell, NFCV Program Consultant, presented at the Early Childhood Professional Development Conference on Infant See and See to Learn.
  • During the first week of February the NFCV set a new "unofficial" precedent in the Rotunda of the Nebraska Capitol! According to the building manager, NFCV was the first ever to have a week long "manned" exhibit right in the heart of our state's elected officials and the business of running Nebraska. The NFCV "attending", Neil Powell, was able to meet many of the newly elected Senators to familiarize them with the works of our organization. A popular "visual" piece on the display easel was the map of Nebraska with all of the See to Learn providers represented.
  • NFCV will present "Seeing through the eyes of a kindergartner: The role of vision in learning" at the Kindergarten Conference in Kearney, July 8-9
