Dear Friends,

With the year coming to an end, I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for your interest in our work and give you an update on the progress being made on our four home building project on San Pascual Street as well the rest of the Building Homes - Building Dreams campaign for Habitat.

I am happy to report that we have completed the predevelopment activities including meeting and getting approval from the Planning Commission and Architectural Board of Review.  Our subdivision maps have been approved by the Santa Barbara city council and once they are recorded we expect to receive permits and will begin construction. The partner families have continued on their sweat equity requirements by attending training workshops that will prepare them to become successful homeowners.

The Building Homes - Building Dreams Campaign for Habitat was publicly launched and includes goals to raise the funds to:
  1. build the homes on San Pascual,
  2. provide the funds to purchase our next site for additional homes,
  3. establish a "ReStore", an environmentally-friendly recycling store for building materials and, for the first time,
  4. make a small beginning on a permanent endowment fund for our work.
The total campaign goal to meet these needs is $3.5 million and despite the challenges that have come with the current economic climate, and thanks to support from the local community and foundations, we have raised 63% of our goal.

These are challenging times for all of us and we are deeply touched by the generousity we continue to see from this amazing community. I am confident we will achieve our goals and see four more families transformed as a result of the compassion and generosity of people like you who are compelled to improve the living conditions and lives of local families.

I come to you with this request: please join us in our effort to end poverty housing in Santa Barbara. Together we can transform lives.

In hope and friendship
,
