Building Homes - Building Dreams
|

Building Homes - Building Dreams is a community-wide effort to raise funds necessary to build
four new homes on a building site that Habitat purchased on San Pascual Street. Using our proven methods of donations, volunteer labor and
sweat equity, Habitat will provide affordable and dignified housing for 13
people. The campaign will provide
for a property acquisition fund and will also establish a much-needed endowment
fund for Habitat. In addition, the campaign will support Habitat's environmentally-friendly " ReStore"
in our community. The ReStore is a model of reduce, reuse and recycle
and accepts donations of quality, gently-used building materials.
Donated items are used in Habitat building projects or sold to the
public with the resulting income going to fund more homes. The
campaign is led by campaign co-chairs and community leaders David
Spainhour and
Christine Garvey and is seeking gifts from individuals, foundations and
businesses over a three-year pledge period. Please help support our important work. Watch the Building Homes - Building Dreams video. |
Habitat Partners with CALM Showcase House |
This year Habitat for Humanity
and the Habitat ReStore partnered with CALM in an effort to divert a great amount of useable building materials from
the Design Showcase House from local landfills. Items from the Design Showcase
House remodel were graciously donated to the Habitat Restore in Goleta and resold at discounted prices to the
public. The Design Showcase is a signature benefit to raise awareness and funds
to support the many critical programs and services that CALM provides to prevent and treat child abuse in Santa Barbara. For information about the Design Showcase event June 3-28,
contact CALM's Development Director, Monica Intaglietta at (805) 965-2376 or email mintaglietta@calm4kids.org.

One-of-a-kind Finds at the ReStore!
|
Granada Chandelier
The Granada's grand lobby was known for its wide staircases, lovely Spanish fixtures and Moorish arches. This iron chandelier is one of the timeless pieces that contributed to the popular Spanish architecture within the Granada Theatre. Antique Spanish Colonial metalwork is renowned for intricate details, scrolls, cutouts and texture, elements of design which are all found in this grand chandelier. Approximately 42" from top to bottom and 32" diameter. Sconces from the Granada are also available at the ReStore!
Stained Glass Window
The Art Nouveau Movement was an artistic and intellectual reaction to
industrialization and mechanization that started in the late 1800s with
classic themes of flowing lines, flowers and leaves. This is an Antique
leaded, stained glass arched window with multi-colored glass panels
in the Art Nouveau style. Circa 1880-1900 period. 2" wide frame with
three circular frames inset. Hand leaded and steel reinforced. Very
Good condition. 10 feet wide, 5 feet tall.
Wrought Iron Gate
True wrought iron can usually be distinguished by its aesthetic patterns and curves and evident marks of the smith's hammer. Since wrought ironwork is forged by hand, small irregularities are usually apparent. An ornamental iron gate can be a beautiful complement to any home. This gate was donated to the ReStore from a historic Montecito estate.
Approximately 89" length, 65" height.

Every
investment yields a return. For every nail hammered, the life of a child will
be enhanced, for every foundation laid, a neighborhood is strengthened, for
every roof raised, a family will be transformed... and for every dollar
contributed, society will reap multiple returns; improved health, better
education and more fulfilled lives.
