Habitat Headlines
December 2008
|
At this joyous time of year we
want to say THANK YOU! We are grateful
to have friends like you, whose wonderful caring and compassion make such a
difference to Santa Barbara
families in urgent need of safe, decent, affordable housing.
Because of you...
We have selected the four families who will
live in the homes we will build on San
Pascual Street. Igor and his children are eager to move out of their current
apartment where mold and mildew have caused respiratory problems. To learn more about Igor or the other families selected, please visit our website.
We have
opened the Habitat ReStore. This
"green" income-generating initiative accepts tax-deductible donations of
recycled building materials which we either use in the homes we build or sell
to the public. Visit the ReStore at 6725 Hollister in Goleta, Wednesdays and Thursdays 12:00pm to 5:00pm and Saturdays from 9:00am to 1:00pm.
The ReStore has diverted over 70 tons of
usable building materials from our landfills and enabled many to remodel
their homes using recycled materials. Thank
you to the volunteers who have already contributed over 1,700 hours to help
staff and set-up our store!
The three
families who moved into our first building project, Via Lucero, are thriving in
their new homes. Bernardo and Javier
have started their own businesses, while AnaCecilia and Maria volunteer at Monte Vista
School. Reports from the
children's teachers are that they are doing very well in school.
We will
break ground on the San Pascual building project this year and begin building next
year. We look forward to seeing YOU
on the job site!
We have hope for the future of Habitat
for Humanity in Santa Barbara. It is our hope this holiday that you will continue your support of our work with a financial contribution.
Because of you, we are
filled with gratitude. Thank you for caring, thank you for your generous
spirit of giving, and may your holiday season be filled with peace and joy.
Best wishes for the New Year from
all of us at Habitat for Humanity,
Joyce McCullough

Every
investment yields a return. For every nail hammered, the life of a child will
be enhanced, for every foundation laid, a neighborhood is strengthened, for
every roof raised, a family will be transformed... and for every dollar
contributed, society will reap multiple returns; improved health, better
education and more fulfilled lives.
