Grassroots volunteers send
Oregon initiative to the ballot

With nearly double the 110,000 signatures needed, Oregonians for Water, Parks and Wildlife turned in its petitions to get a constitutional amendment to fund conservation on the ballot. The measure will make permanent the state's only dedicated source of conservation funding, 15 percent of state lottery proceeds. That amounts to about $100 million a year to protect water quality, restore fish and wildlife habitat, preserve natural areas and revitalize the state park system. Some 2,000 volunteers gathered more than 50,000 of the signatures, a huge grassroots effort that will continue into the voter education phase of the campaign. Watch our Facebook page for updates.

Help us get state initiatives off to a strong start
A dedicated state conservation fund makes an enormous difference in the ability of local communities to preserve open space and protect their water supplies. Conserving land typically requires a combination of public and private funds, and a state grant is often the linchpin of a deal.

In addition to the Oregon effort, the Conservation Campaign is working on statewide ballot measure campaigns in Maine and Iowa for the upcoming election season. Polls tell us voters are still willing to pay for preserving the places they love, but we expect a tough fight because of the economy and growing anti-tax opposition. With your support, we can make sure these campaigns reach key voters with their message. Your online donation -- matched by our board challenge grant -- will help these campaigns win in today's difficult political climate.

Statehouse advocacy wins conservation funds in NC
Working with the statewide coalition Land for Tomorrow, the Conservation Campaign lobbied successfully for $50 million for the Clean Water Management Trust Fund (CWMTF), North Carolina's principal funding source for conservation. Thanks in large part to a barrage of phone calls, emails and visits from conservation advocates, the legislature approved the CWMTF funding as well as $2 million for the Agricultural Development and Farmland Preservation Trust Fund. It also protected funding for the Natural Heritage and Park and Recreation trust funds. Governor Perdue signed the legislation on June 30.
Double your conservation dollars!

Our board will match your online donation dollar for dollar. We need your gift today to defend and expand funding for conservation.
