NJ nectarines - Chuck WalkerHelp Us Pass the NJ Bond Act
On Tuesday, New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine signed legislation to put a $400 million conservation Bond Act on the ballot. The measure renews the state's depleted trust for preserving clean water, working farms, fish and wildlife habitat and historic places. Without new funding, the state will miss out on tremendous land conservation opportunities in the current real-estate market and lose more of its last unprotected open space to sprawl.

Since 1961, New Jersey voters have passed every single statewide conservation ballot measure, but the prolonged recession makes this the most challenging campaign yet. As we gear up for the November election, your support is critical to getting the Bond Act passed.
The Key Is Educating Voters
A survey taken in April suggests that if the election were held now, it would be a toss-up. But when voters learned what the Bond Act would pay for and how little it would cost (just $10 a year per household), support shot up.

The Conservation Campaign is working with the 132-member NJ Keep It Green coalition to mobilize support and inform swing voters. By making a contribution to TCC today, restricted for use in NJ, you help us send the message to voters that conservation is an investment worth keeping.

Throughout the country runs a deep vein of support for conserving land and water and a growing awareness that clean water, open space, parks and natural ecosystems are tied to economic vitality. According to a recent analysis, every dollar invested through the New Jersey Bond Act would yield ten dollars in economic value--including jobs in park building, historic restoration, farming, fishing and outdoor recreation.

But the budget woes of state governments and voters alike makes approving measures like the New Jersey Bond Act much harder. Passage of the act will send a strong signal to political leaders that voters continue to support conservation in tough economic times. Your donation of $25, $50 or $100 will strengthen our efforts to conserve land and water in New Jersey and around the country in the months ahead.
