GM Corporate Gift Increases

 

GM Fort Wayne Plant Personnel Director Jeff Sorensen and UAW Local 2209 President Orval Plumlee presented a check for $42,300 recently to United Way of Allen County CEO Todd Stephenson.  

This corporate gift represents a 62 percent increase over last year's gift of $26,000. Sorensen said that GM Management works closely with UAW Local 2209 to raise dollars for United Way of Allen County. He added that the increase was possible this year due to the third shift being added at the plant in May 2010. Read More.

Volunteers and Projects Needed for Day of Caring!
Work projects and volunteers are needed for United Way of Allen County's 19thNIPSCO annual Day of Caring set for August 4, 2011. The kick-off breakfast begins at 7:30 a.m. at the Headwaters West Rothschild Pavilion. Once again, Day of Caring is sponsored by outstanding corporate partner NIPSCO. Thank you, NIPSCO! 

 

Day of Caring is a community-wide effort to match volunteers with projects such as painting or cleaning at local non-profit agencies and organizations. Approximately 1,000 volunteers take part each year to help improve their community.

Calls to 211 Continue to Climb
Calls to United Way's 2-1-1 Call Center are continuing to climb. The Northeast Indiana 2-1-1 Call Center has released its annual report, which shows that 2-1-1 saw a 12 percent increase in calls from 2009 to 2010. In 2010, 2-1-1 answered 43,229 calls, compared with 38,582 calls in 2009. Since 2005, the call volume has grown a tremendous 84 percent, from 23,476 to 43,229. Read More.
 

Learn United Growing/Changing

United Way of Allen County's Learn United initiative, which mobilizes volunteers who help children improve their reading skills and read at grade level by third grade, is expanding. Read the letter to stakeholders. 


Registration is closed for the current school year, but thousands of volunteers will be needed for fall opportunities.

United Way of Allen County, Associated Churches Food Bank and area letter carriers are challenging the community to repeat last year's performance and contribute more than 600,000 pounds of food to the 2011 Letter Carriers' "Stamp Out Hunger" Food Drive set for Saturday, May 14, 2011.
 

To help out, residents should place their donation of non-perishable items in a grocery bag next to their mailbox on May 14, 2011. Read More.
