Congratulations Regal Beloit -- Spirit of Giving Award Winner

Congratulations to Regal Beloit for winning the highest honor for United Way of Allen County campaign partners. Regal Beloit employees were recently presented with the Spirit of Giving award, originally created by longtime United Way donor Will Clark. In addition to having 14 leadership givers, their company participated in United Way's Day of Caring and was involved in many other community activities. Regal Beloit used all the best practices for running a campaign, and this has proven beneficial because their percent of participation has risen 46% over the past three years. Thank you Regal Beloit!

Meet A Volunteer: Mark Corral of UPS
Along with volunteering his time at United Way's Day of Caring, Mark Corral of UPS began a golf outing for UPS Fort Wayne three years ago to raise money during their Community Campaign.

"As a company, we so believe in United Way's mission that it is written in our policy book," said Mark Corral.

Still Time to Join Day of Caring Efforts
UWAC logoThe 2008 Day of Caring is in full swing and more than 1000 volunteers have committed their time this year to "help kids be successful." United Way encourages your participation in this year's Day of Caring by simply donating school supplies or sponsoring books for children with a cash donation. United Way will be purchasing books from Scholastic in an attempt to help increase early literacy with your monetary donations.
Thank you, Organized Labor: American Pride Ride Huge Success!
Thank you to everyone who came out to support United Way at this year's American Pride Ride! Come rain, come shine - more than 250 riders came out to enjoy live music, great food, a live auction and a bike show with awards. Even Fort Wayne Mayor, Tom Henry sent a proclamation naming June 28, 2008 as American Pride Ride Day.

"We cannot thank all our supporters enough," said Vickie Myers of United Way. "The first riders who went out delivered more than 100 donated teddy bears to the children's ward at Lutheran Hospital. It truly was an amazing day."

United Way would also like to give an extra thank you to our Host Sponsors: Current Mechanical & Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 166.

Allen County Case Coordination Exemplary for Indiana
United Way of Allen County and Fort Wayne are being "placed on the map" for their exemplary Case Coordination System (CCS), as United Ways statewide are beginning to adopt similar programs. Five partnering agencies, Aging and In Home Services, CANI, Lutheran Social Services, the Salvation Army and the Urban League, are all working together to maximize community resources and achieve better long-term results.

The CCS partners have been collaborating for more than four years to develop a system to secure the linkage between organizations and the individuals they serve. By using a shared client database, clients are better served because each of the agencies can see significant client information and the services they have been using elsewhere.

In addition to the shared client database, the five agencies are working together to create a "No Wrong Door" policy. In other words, no matter what organization a client visits, that agency can provide access to services from the other agencies. Agreements to share program applications and funding have created a higher level of efficiency and effectiveness, seeing that additional time and travel is not required for clients.

This system also assists individuals to connect to case management, which is a one-on-one interaction where clients can set personal goals and obtain guidance to become self sufficient and independent.

United Way's 2-1-1 was part of the original inspiration for CCS, as 2-1-1 has become a great way for agencies to stay connected, as a "clearing house" for partners.  Since 2003, 2-1-1 has been an accessible location where the community can receive information and coordination of necessary services.
