New Nielsen Metal Frame Colors
Metal Picture Frames
Metal Frame 117

In response to customer requests, we have recently added new colors to our line of metal picture frames . You can now choose German Silver as a warm alternative to Frosted Silver. Contrast Grey is a distinctive shade of dark moulding that many photographers prefer, and we've also added Antique Gold.

The German Silver, and especially the Contrast Grey, can take on different looks depending on the color and angle of the light, so we strongly recommend that you purchase straight or corner samples of the moulding before buying frames. sRGB web colors (and many monitors) can't capture the subtle tones of larger color gamuts; sample pieces will give you an accurate idea of how these mouldings will look in your display environment. Corner samples also double as a great sales tool when helping your clients choose frames, so until Sunday, July 31st, you may take 15% off your order of metal frames-including metal frame straight and corner samples! This way you have time to order samples and evaluate the colors before ordering your metal frames, while getting a great discount on both.

For a limited time we selling metal corner samples at 50% Off

German Silver available in metal frame profiles: 12, 15, 97 and 117.

Contrast Grey available in Nielsen metal frames: 12, 15, and 117.

Antique Gold is available in Nielsen frames: 15 and 117.
Profile 99 has a special textured version called Brushed German Silver.

Introductory Guide to Framing Photographs

Customers who are first-time framers often ask, "What's the best way to frame my photographs?" There are two main considerations when framing your photographs: Aesthetics and Preservation.

Aesthetics
Traditional fine art paintings are often framed in decorative, baroque-style frames. While this is certainly the norm for a Rembrandt or a Monet hanging in the Louvre, most photographs call for something less ornate and more contemporary: the clean lines of a gallery wood frame with subtle detail in the finish; or a sleek, dark metal frame. The key to framing photographs is balance: you want the frame to augment the artistry of your image without pulling the viewer's eyes away from the photo's center of interest.

This principle applies to selecting a mat as well. White, off-white or neutral mat colors are generally the best choices for photographs; double mats in complementary colors are also appropriate.  Use a black or ebony mat when you want to create a dramatic contrast that pulls the viewer's eye immediately into the photo.  Of course, your choice of mat and frame will always depend on the subject, style and scale of your photograph.  When in doubt, feel free to draw on the reminder we use here at Frame Destination: "All things being equal, the simplest solution tends to be the best one" (William of Ockham).

Preservation
In addition to adding to the aesthetic value of your work, using framing materials and techniques that are archival or conservation grade can add to the longevity and value of your artwork. Once a digital image is printed onto paper it becomes subject to the same dangers of light, dust, moisture, temperature extremes and acidity as film prints. Photographic prints come into direct contact with mat and mount board, so special care must be taken that degradation-causing chemicals do not get transferred to your image through them.  Using acid-free, archival quality mats and mount board, as well as UV treated glazing material, is the best method of protecting your image against acid and moisture, both of which can lead to irreversible damage like yellowing and fading. The preservation of artwork is a science unto itself; further information about conservation matting and framing can be found at the Library of Congress' guide to matting and framing website: http://lcweb.loc.gov/preserv/care/mat.html .
